Hi guys I hope this isn't rubbing it in with those who are not well but I feel too well and it bothers me. I have had no dumping no sickness and feel no discomfort and haven't since I had the bypass 3 weeks ago. I'm worried that the operation hasn't worked on me even though I have lost weight since the procedure but I put that down to the liquid diet we are put on. Does anybody else feel this way?

OMG I seriously had to take a double look to see if this was something I wrote, you sound just like me when I was around 3 weeks out. I even called my nutritionist lol. So 3 weeks out Im assuming you are in the pureed phase? I am now 7 weeks out and I did not start really feeling the restriction until I started eating more solid food. Im still technically in the soft phase but I feel restriction. I serve myself 3 oz and rarely go over that. For some reason when I eat shrimp I need more...strange but oh well. What you are feeling is SOOOO normal. The pureed goes through you faster from what Ive heard, and what Ive experienced. You will feel restriction more when you advance. As for the dumping and no problems Im in the same boat! Ive had no issues. There was one or two times when I accidentally took too big of a drink/bite and I felt an uncomfortable feeling but it passed within a minute or two. I have not dumped, but that is a good thing. Im following my doctors and nutritionists orders to a 'T' so there is no reason for it. Some people have the issue where certain foods dont agree with them, like chicken for example but not everyone has that. I lost quickly-ish in the beginning. It slowed down but my doctor says Im right on track. They told me that I lost a lot preop during the liquid diet so that was my 'big drop' now Im just losing steadily, some weeks more than others. I see a lot of people lose faster than me but Im exercising and eating right so oh well. You are fine! Dont worry :)

Awwww thank you so much for your comments I really needed a reply like yours. I'm freaking out I feel like the surgery never took place. I too only get a discomfort when taking too big a drink. I too have followed my doctor instructions to the letter so I guess that's why I've had no complications. Again thank you for your reply and good luck on your journey xxx

I am having the same experience. Though, like you, I was expecting things to be a lot worse. The boards scared me about how terrible this would be, maybe being young helps us bounce back. I'm on soft foods now as I tolerate them, and I feel like I can tolerate anything. After surgery I was so elated, no pain after the first day, up and exercising vigorously 5x a week, and now a month out I'm cleared for 50lb lifting. It's been a breeze. And I can definitely eat easily, which scared me, like did they really do the right surgery?! But I've noticed it's really food dependent. Egg whites I can eat and feel full, but not stuffed, just eating slowly. But 4oz of talapia and I'm stuffed uncomfortably. Veggies take a lot of space too, so I've had to slow down on that just to get Protein in (and I love veggies!) Once you're on 'real' food, the restriction will come. And I have had dumping twice, on salmon and grits. Felt like I wanted life to end, nausea like I've never had before. The coma feeling after a heavy christmas dinner, but 20x worse and painful.

I'm on a 2 week stall now, probably means my body needs time to readjust. Good luck!

You all sound like you're doing great!! Just an FYI you won't experience dumping until u eat something high in sugar. At beginning during strict diet phase u shouldn't be having more then 15 grams of sugar as you're healing and don't want to have dumping or vomiting at that intense healing phase. When real food comes is when vomiting and dumping can happen as your body adjusts to the new foods. Good luck everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
