Beans- the magical fruit?

Recommended Posts

I see so many people talking about refried Beans and smashed black beans as on of their first foods. I love both kind, but let's be honest.... I might clear a room of people after eating them right now. They truly become the "magical fruit" for me!

Any chance that might change after VSG? I'm thinking the last thing I need is to eat a super gas producing food while I'm still adjusting to the changes anyway?

I never liked them pre-op so I was unwilling to try them post-op.

You are eating so little when you are on soft foods, I don't think it even matters.

There's plenty of other foods rife with Protein to have.

The reasons why beans are nice is that one can couple them with cheese. Personally I hate most canned food I've tasted by themselves because of that resonating "canned" taste.

However, one can of beans lasts me half a week to a week.. I started off with 1/3 a cup but as I've introduced a few more pieces of shredded cheese I've found it too much so I've gone more to 1/4 cup of beans and like 3 tbsp of shredded block cheddar.

Beans can likely overfill the sleeve rather quickly around the stage we start soft solids. I learned first hand with this as I had that "full" feeling knowing I ate too much, plus that overstimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system which made me feel tired afterwards.

I only ate them right after I switched to soft foods. Like I could get 3 TB down before I was full (they are very filling). Because I ate so little, I never noticed any gas problems. And if you are on a PPI after surgery, you won't need to worry about that gas. Overall, since VSG surgery I've not noticed gas but I am more constipated because of all the Protein and few carbs. I still have to take stuff for Constipation and I'm 3.5 months post op.

Fun fact about beans: the more you eat, the LESS you toot! Apparently your tummy builds up a tolerance so the more Beans you eat, the less gas they'll give you.

Well that's interesting...I love them. Especially black beans...never get gassy...so it makes sense! :) Thanks for sharing.

I love Beans and I especially loved them on soft foods. Fat free refried beans were a happy meal for me. The only one to avoid is the baked beans that are loaded with sugar. I say, eat up, and let any unpleasant side effects be someone else's problem :P

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
