JohnOwens 1 Posted May 11, 2017 So I was sleeved early January and I sleep with a CPAP machine. I noticed early on that I would wake up with a call completely dry mouth. Not just a little dry, but more like lips stuck to teeth and a tongue like sandpaper dry. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what do you do to combat it? 1 rnymorales reacted to this
Katriena 70 Posted May 11, 2017 Does your CPAP come with a humidifier? That really helps. I do wake up with a really dry mouth/throat sometimes anyway; don't know why that is.RNY 14 April 2017SW: 295 lb / 134 kgGW: 187 lb / 85 kg (I'll see when I get there) 1 Dashofpixiedust8 reacted to this
glitter eyes 1,398 Posted May 11, 2017 I have had chronic dry mouth since surgery almost three years ago. I keep a bottle of Water by my bed and when my dry mouth wakes me up its right there so I can take a few sips. Also keep a tube of biotene moisturizing mouth spray by my bed and I use that sometimes and it helps. I don't use a CPAP so I don't know why I have such dry mouth. This only started right after my surgery. I pretty much keep constant dry mouth now anyhow but when I wake up its monstrously exaggerated! Woke up the other morning and my upper lip was literally curled in and stuck to my front gums!!! I had to laugh but it's getting out of hand! Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem. Vafps52 2 Posted May 11, 2017 Hi I use a CPAP as well. I didn't have any issues prior to surgery, but now my mouth gets cotton dry AND I end up waking up with my cheeks puffed out with air--crazy! My machine has settings from 8-20 so it can vary during the night as my breathing changes. . Last night I noticed I felt too much air going in my nose. I use the nasal pillows which have been very comfortable for the past 3 years. Mine has a humidifier which I can adjust and sometimes do. I may need to call or schedule with my sleep apnea physician and see what the issue is. As you know it is very uncomfortable to wake up with a cotton dry mouth! I also keep a glass of Water on the nightstand--have for years. However, waking up and having to drink water 4-5 times per night because my very dry mouth wakes me up (along with other issues I mentioned) is not in any way a restful night's sleep for me! 1 JohnOwens reacted to this
carlychloe2 106 Posted May 11, 2017 That happens ro me also. I think I may have to go to the mask type that covers the nose and mouth. I keep opening our mouth when I sleep and that defeats the purpose of the machine.Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app 1 JohnOwens reacted to this

Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app Do any of you use a chin strap with the nasal pillow or is a full mask? I use cpap and my mouth gets dry if the full mask slips off my mouth. My surgery is this Monday so i hope i dont experience this dry mouth is totally annoying.

Wow that's bad. I hope there is a solution cause it's bad enough to use the machine to sleep and then waking up to drink Water disturbing your sleep.
hermione53 157 Posted May 16, 2017 I got fitted with a CPAP two weeks ago and also have dry mouth problems. I now keep a bottle of Water next to me. It's annoying because drinking more makes me have to get up to go to the bathroom more. I don't have a chin strap- I have a Panasonic Resperonics Dream head thing and a Panasonic base machine with a humidifier. It's Bluetooth enabled so sends out data on my usage. I don't think I'm sleeping with my mouth open because the guy said they'd be able to tell and I'd have to get a full mask. Anybody know if that's true? 1 carlychloe2 reacted to this

MsNat3 24 Posted May 23, 2017 Good Morning I'm in the early stages of this process but I have been on my CPAP machine since June 2014. I have never experienced dry mouth and I use a full face mask and keep Water in the humidifier. For those who are experiencing dry mouth do you have a humidifier as part of your machine and do you keep water in it?Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

I have the nasal pad type and at firrst I did very well, no dry mouth. For some reason I am now opening my moth when I sleep and the dry mouth is horrible. From my understanding if you open your mouth during sleep the machine cant do its job. I even have a chin strap, which seems useless.Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app
