Had surgery on April 27th. With hernia repair as well. I can't stomach the Protein Shakes or Water and only been able to get in about 50-60 oz of liquid. I stay so nauseous , burp a lot, hiccups, and when I do try something by mouth it feels like it is trapped between my breast and chest. Any answers or suggestions please!!!! Very stressed!

Have you spoken to your surgeon's office? The first few weeks were rough and I had a massive hiatal hernia repair (as well as gallbladder removal). I think that weird feeling of there being an alien inside my esophagus went away around 12 weeks. I didn't have much nausea. Are you on any anti-nausea pills? And what about antacids? Are you on a prilosec or something like that?

I hiccupped a LOT when recovering from the surgery. I was told it was from the hiatal hernia repair and maybe if my stomach is too full.

Have you tried the Unjury chicken Soup? that was something I was able to stomach pretty well.

Hang in there, it gets better!! Recovery isn't easy for everyone and the more you had done the harder it is. Walk walk walk walk walk. Even just slowly around the house. That will help as well.

I have talked to my surgeon. He prescribed me phenagran and it helps a little. I'm just so over the sweet Jello and popcicles! Thank you for replying!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
