Sleeping/discomfort/low energy

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 weeks postop from VSG. My incisions seem to be healing just fine but occasionally I feel some pain under the one they used to remove the portion of stomach they cut. That incision (on my right) and it's friend on the left make it nearly impossible for me to sleep on my side still. What were some techniques that helped you sleep better?

So, I'm just not sleeping well. I don't know if this is causing me to be so low energy, if it's the extreme decrease in calories, healing from surgery or a combo of the three.

Also, I still feel like my abdomen is pretty bloated. Is that normal? It feels almost like it's distended, but at my 2 week postop the doc said it looked great.

I guess I'm just ready to feel like myself again.

I felt pretty much the same as you three weeks out. By 4 weeks I was MUCH better and at 5 weeks I was pretty much completely myself again, so just keep that in mind. You're very likely almost through the weeds.

I'm a side sleeper and had a hard time with that too. I found sleeping with a pillow between my legs and hugged to my belly allowed me to sleep on my side more comfortably. You could also get one of those crazy pregnancy body pillows to snuggle with as well.

I'd say you're right on your suspicions about low energy. You just had surgery AND you're really not eating a whole lot to nourish you and give you energy. You will feel better in time, so just keep on keeping on.

Regarding the lack of energy, I felt it for about six weeks post-op. Mine was due to low level post-anesthesia fog that persisted for several weeks after the surgery.

Quote

Fatigue after general anesthesia is very common and is secondary to the disruption of biological rhythms and the sedative effects caused by the drugs used for sedation. It can be felt for a few days to a few months in nearly one third of anesthetized patients.

I'm 4 weeks post op today and I still can't sleep on my left side. I can lay slightly on my right side with a soft pillow wedged under my but I have not been sleeping well at all. I haven't slept through the night since surgery and it's really taking its toll.

HOLLYGOLIGHTLYVSG: I was sor also on that side. Im now 22 days out and it is gone! Can u get a wedge pillow? That may help. Are u on full liquids still. I say that because i was eating a lot of milk products, protien shakes, cottagr cheese, pudding all which are milk based and that made me bloated and gassy. I was told to use unflavored Fiber and that seems to help. It will get better soon probably when u start eating more. Hang in[emoji5]

It is. I'm so very tired. And that is making me more irritable. I just want a good nights sleep and to feel like myself again.

I'm on soft foods now, cottage cheese, refried Beans, etc. I can start moist fish tomorrow. I don't feel gassy so much as just bloated, but it could totally be gas. I just feel like my stomach is harder feeling than normal if that makes sense?

I felt very weak & shaky for two nights at 7 weeks out, I realized that I hadn't eaten nearly enough calories & I felt like my body was shutting down. I made a point to up my Protein & stopped worrying myself to death because stress can hinder your recovery, I've slept at least 6-7 hours each night since.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
