So I just received a phone call from my primary at the VA hospital wanting me to start taking Lipitor again (I stopped taking it the day before my surgery almost 7 months ago) because even though my blood sugar looks great I am still a "DIABETIC". I had blood word done last month and according to my A1C number I am a pre-diabetic. I have lost almost 100 pounds, am at a healthy BMI and on a low dose of Metformin. Her telling me that was almost like getting kicked in the you know where. What a great stat to the day. Oh well, I guess I need to build a bridge and get over it.

Pity party is now over, please continue on with your day.

Burning a lot of fat can make your Cholesterol artificially high. Mine is high but my Dr understands why and isn't putting me on meds for it.

The thing that really made me upset is the whole, "You are still a diabetic." I know my A1C says I am a pre-diabetic but damn. I went from 1500 mg metformin and two different types of insulin a day to 250 mg of Metformin twice a day.

I'd tell them I wanted to see someone else. The VA is terrible about overmedicating anyway. Dad and husband are diabetic veterans who get care there, so I'm extremely familar with the system and how it works. I have no qualms about seeking a 2nd opinon in that system.

WOW!! I know exactly what you are saying. I was on 100units of Levermire 2 times a day plus 500mg of Metformin before my RNY. I have been off all of them since early 2014. In January I went in to get my bloodwork done so I could see my Dr afterwards. I got a email that told me my BS was high again, it was 204. When I went to see her I ask her to give me a month. I know I was doing pretty bad with extra carbs. Right afterwards my 1st fasting BS was 163 and has went down every morning. I think I dodged the bullet!! WOW This was the one thing I really wanted to get under control so I was so excited to be off it all. I was told the same thing about Diabetes isn't gone it can pop up at any time. I'm sorry that you are having a hard time. Maybe it will go back in remission. Good Luck

This. The liver mobilizes fat into the bloodstream, which can show up as elevated cholesterol.

I would argue that you are no longer diabetic, you're prediabetic. There is nothing masking the diabetes, correct? That is a pretty low dose of metformin. Do you eat carbs or are you strict low carb? Did you dislike the Lipitor? I understand the concern with statins, especially muscle pain. Coenzyme Q-10 helps relieve the statin induced muscle pain. I believe that statins work not by lowering cholesterol, but by lowering systemic inflammation, which leads to heart disease, etc.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
