Park Ridge Lutheran General please help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am here because I am really considering the gastric bypass. I am 36 and have been over weight most of my life. I have anxiety and panic disorder and it really takes a toll on me making this decision. I have come to realize I need to do this and stop being embarrassed however, i can't help the panic and anxiety. I am on Medicaid (family health network plan of medicaid) and I am pretty sure lutheran general in park ridge takes my insurance. I am very worried about all that has to be done to get to post op. I am a slight diabetic but have low cholesterol and regular to low blood pressure. I've have an EKG within the last 6 months when I was having a severe panic attack and my heart is fine I just naturally have an elevated heart rate due to anxiety. All other medical possibilities were ruled out and my medication helps it but I'm on average 90 beats per minute. I wish I could talk to people from my area which is chicago/park ridge area and the doctor likely to do my surgery is Allen T. Mikhail. Wish I had some insight. The one thing which I dont know if it's a requirement that I will likely need to do is see the gynecologist for a regular visit and breast exam and I think that terrifies me more than anything. Is there anyone out there in my are that has a gynecologist that I would feel comfortable going to because I am really embarrassed about being overweight. I know I have already had to face my weight at the doctor and I have lost some weight about 45 pounds over the last 6 months but the gynecologist just seems so invasive and humiliating I need to get over it. Please help me? Th for listening. I know I am not as far along as most of you guys but I'm trying to

get there!

I had my surgery done at Evanston Hospital (Northshore University). Although an Ob/Gyne appt. wasn't required, I still seen mine to make sure I was well protected after surgery. I went for birth control methods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
