Kerrie123 2 Posted May 9, 2017 Hi all, I had my surgery 7 days ago and the past couple of days I have been getting period like symptoms (brown discharge in pants, I'm so sorry to be so graphic but couldn't explain it any other way). My concern is that I have the contraceptive implant (my second one so in year 4) and have not had any period since having it put in. Now the last couple of days I have been getting what I said above? I understand from other posts that it's normal for people to have periods come and go just after surgery but I am a tad confused as I haven't had a period in 4 years! Any help would be greatly appreciated! 2 Lana6 and Hollygolightlyvsg reacted to this
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted May 9, 2017 Ask your Dr. Spotting is not uncommon. People that haven't had periods in years and thought they were done with menopause have had periods after WLS. Burning all that fat, releases hormones and things get wild. 3 CocoNina, Dashofpixiedust8 and Berry78 reacted to this
ANewLife4_Me 16 Posted May 10, 2017 I am on a birth control shot that stops my cycles completely, but I spotted for 6 weeks after surgery. Hormones go nuts as the weight drops! 1 Dashofpixiedust8 reacted to this

hermione53 157 Posted May 16, 2017 I'm also experiencing wild "cycles." There is no regularity whatsoever. At one point I spotted for two weeks straight. I also experience weird pain that seems a bit like ovulation pain, but this has been pretty chronic since the surgery. I'm five months out and luckily that's eased up quite a bit. I was probably 2 years into perimenopause when I had the surgery. I'm wondering if it's sped up my timeline...
darnlochnessmonster 40 Posted May 24, 2017 Yup, I was on Depo Provera for about 18 months then switched to the Nexplanon implant. I didn't have my period for about 5 years. Now I've had two since getting sleeved on 4/26. I've learned from other women on the board that this is totally typical, and some helpful surgeons even warn their patients about it (I did not have one of those helpful surgeons!) Stock up on pads/tampons/whatever because you may be in for a wild ride... PS I recommend the Always Overnights Size 4 or 5. Great for plus size panty coverage when you have no idea what to expect from your cycle!
