Needing some advice on your experience. I am 8 days post op and 23lb down yay BUT today I woke up feeling super sick and have felt it all day. I felt this way 5 days post op but it went away during the day. I'm trying not to freak out that something is wrong but I can't help panic. Did anyone else experience this? Thanks

We need more details. Sick how? Fever? Pain? Vomiting? Tiredness?

Nausea is really common. Not everyone gets it. You might mention it to your team and they can make recommendations as to what to take. Also, take note of changes in diet to see if there was a trigger.

Good luck, hope you feel better!

How bad is the nausea? Is it mild or severe? Did your surgeon prescribe you any anti nausea meds? Mild nausea is common but if it is severe you need to call your surgeon.

I can relate to your nausea, I was severely nauseated for 3 weeks, took zofran twice daily, had a patch behind my ear and compazine if needed. Had to drink slow, but it got better, now I'm not nauseated. It does get better. Some of the Protein Shakes were so sweet and sickly, good luck.

Thanks everyone. Ended up in ED this morning as I was having pain in my chest and shoulder and rapid heart. Turns out I have a blood clot in my spleen all is ok though hopefully it doesn't spread as already killed 1/3 of my spleen.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
