Anyone have Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN or use a Blue Center of Excellence?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on Thursday and my hospital dropped the ball and didn't verify my insurance so I have no idea what my out of pocket is going to be for them. I'm one of the lucky ones whose plan covers 90% of the allowed amount with no deductible applied since I am using a Blue Center of Excellence. I'm just not sure what to anticipate out of pocket. I only had to pay my surgeon $124! Obviously the hospital is much more costly. Any one else have the same type of coverage? What did your out of pocket come to?

I had to use a BCBS center of Excellence. Austin Texas. I had the best experience and I paid the hospital 25$, surgeon 200$, and office visits 40$ each, psych 100$, Nut 125$. That was all of my out of pocket paid. I had my surgery March 6th, just got the itimimized bill with all costs of 52K. I am blessed I had to pay none of that!!!!

GOOD LUCK!

What do you mean dropped the ball? Didn't seek preapproval or is not in your network?

The hospital hasn't verified my benefits. I was there last Monday for pre op testing, they were supposed to tell me then and weren't aware I had insurance. I was told I would get a call by the end of last week. I was proactive and called them twice, no call back. I called them today and the lady said I owed them $8700. I was like uhhh I know what my insurance covers and that doesn't sound right at all. The lady was like "oh you have insurance?" They were supposed to call me in two hours from that call and didn't so I called them back and was told that I would know by the end of business today. The business office closes in 14 mins. I doubt I'm getting a call.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
