Am I in denial?

Recommended Posts

Today is day 10 of my Clear liquids diet, and I am 8 days post-op, and I am barely ever hungry. Is that because my body is feeding so much off of it's rather generous stored fat? Day 1 of the liquids was a real pain, but every day since has gotten progressively easier. Of course, I am a rule oriented person, so the mere fact I have a set of rules about eating may be able to trick my brain into thinking, "well you can't eat other things anyway, so don't worry about it." Anyone else have this experience? I keep on seeing these posts about how hungry people are, and I feel like a very odd duck in the pond! :)

No, you're not odd, I wasn't hungry, either. Sometimes we are lucky for a bit. I didn't get truly hungry until I was about 1/2 way through my pureed stage. And then it was really only head hunger.

I wasn't hungry or thirsty for days and days. It took me until day 11 post op - before I even felt like I wanted to eat/drink anything.

My theory is it is because you body is getting detoxed from the carbs it was consuming before. That, in fact, is the key to not feeling deprived ever again after you have surgery......the useless carbs like potatoes, Pasta, rice, corn, etc all digest so quickly that have so little nutritional value that they are gone in no time and our blood sugar starts to bounce - makes us think we are hungry when we are not.

Glad you aren't 'suffering' too much....I love your statement that you are 'rule oriented'...that will be your key to success from now on - lapband surgery is not for rebels. :clap2: Best wishes!

I wasn't hungry for like... since 2 days pre-op.

My doctor gave me something for head hunger..

Pre-op liquid diet, I took this stuff.. but it wasn't overwhelming to me. The day before surgery I even went to a steak house with my family, watched them eat all kinds of good food.. and I had the broth of onion Soup without complaints.

I might have just been so excited to be doing the surgery, I didn't care about food at the time.

Post-op, I didn't feel hungry for a couple weeks.. the swelling kept me stuffed.. I only drank or ate pureed food, etc because I knew I needed to, and it was minimal.

But then it finally hit me.. swelling went down and I was a monster again!!

I am almost 10 months post-op and rarely am hungry. I remember one time last month when my stomach actually growled...I was so surprised.

My advice is to enjoy it while you can.... I wish that my phase of non-hunger lasted long (I got hungry on po day 6). I have a friend who was banded a month earlier than me and his hunger didn't return until 3 weeks later. His 1st piece of advice to me after surgery was "enjoy not being hungry while you can".

I will heed everyone's advice and enjoy the "not starving" feeling. I'm 9 days post-op and still a little swollen and thought maybe I wasn't hungry because of the anesthesia being in my system... I don't know where I heard that but for whatever reason, let's thank God it's happening!

I do have the head hunger to eat something crunchy (chips are calling me!!), and I would love to have something grilled on the BBQ! I go to mush foods on wednesday, today I can eat whatever I can get through a straw (think I can mash chips up and inhale them??? heehee)....j/k

I wasn't hungry for the first two weeks after surgery, then it was almost as if I was pre-band and was hungry again. I was so disappointed - I thought my band wasn't working!

My doctor does fills very slowly and told me it's important to heal well so that you don't vomit and have your band slip. So enjoy this time and when you can eat more, make sure you make good choices until your first fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
