Puréed foods 1 week out

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery nine days ago and it went great. No pain or discomfort from day one I could tolerate Clear Liquids and even an ounce of yogurt several times a day. I am getting in 64 ounces of Water in a day and 90/120 grams of Protein. I use paleo egg protein mixed into my drinks. I average 700-900 calories a day. I have only lost two pounds since the surgery as good as I feel I am actually afraid that I will put weight on as I don't feel any restriction. It worries me has any one else experienced this?

1 week out?? Wow. I'm not allowed pureed for 2 weeks out.
Good luck..

I was allowed purée from day 2. :-) BUT: not everything felt good and the portions were tiny. Yogurt usually works well.

You did not stretch your stomach out...

Liquids are incapable of stretching the stomach. pureed foods, a.k.a. "pudding thick" liquid foods, are incapable of stretching the stomach. These foods also do not produce the feeling of restriction in all peoples' sleeves.

In all likelihood you will not feel that tight restrictive feeling until further along in your dietary progression when you consume solid Proteins such as chicken, beef, fish, pork, and so on.

great to know that., I do tolerate the liquids and puree foods fine although I do drink the liquids all day long I don't just down the bottle all at once :-) I have no desire to eat meat or real food at this time only egg salad and pureed sweetpotato which i mix with Protein power. Thank you for your answer

I am like you Cajun1 as I had no pain, nausea or issues from my recent VSG on 4/17/17. I am still on full liquids and am looking forward to starting puréed foods this week and then soft foods in 3 more weeks. I feel I can eat/drink 4-8 oz at a time, and often feel like I can eat ( more like drink) more. I just want something to chew, so today, I got sf chewing gum and that really satisfied the urge to chew. I actually gained 5 lbs from all the IV fluids and then lost 2 lbs a day for 5 days. Then the scale stopped until this morning. I lost 3 lbs after a 10 day stall. I have been walking 2-3 miles per day and couldn't understand why I was not shedding pounds. My face has thinned and I lost a chin, (good riddance!) my pants are getting looser. Then I realized that it took 30 years to gain it and I should be more patient. Our bodies just endured a traumatic change and must be allowed time to heal & adjust. Be patient, give it time and Celebrate every small victory.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
