Looking for 1st hand feedback

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am about to commit to having the MGB done with Dr Cobourn at the Smart Shape clinic. I am hoping to hear from people who have actually had the MGB done themselves. Do you have any positive or negative feedback? I am so excited to reclaim my life but there have been a few fear mongers on another MGB forums that are making me question the MGB because of its newness and making me feel like going the self pay route is unsafe. However, not one of the negative people on the forum have experienced the MGB first hand, so I would love to hear from someone who has already done it, especially someone with the same doctor.

I had the MGB surgery 4 weeks ago and am very happy with it. I've had no complications and am losing weight quite well. This procedure is 20+ years old and is very popular in many countries around the world. I think many of the fear mongers are caught up in U.S. medical/insurance politics and their opinions are not based on scientific evidence.

I was self-pay but not with Dr. Cobourn, who I hear is a fine surgeon. Good luck!

I had the MGB 7 weeks ago. Best thing I've ever done. Easy recovery (I was in hospital for 2 nights), no issues drinking or eating yet still feel the restriction needed to stop me overeating. I've also had steady weightloss with no stalls. This type of GB is safer than the RNY, is faster to recover from, has less post-op complications and provides similar weightloss. No regrets here, that's for sure.

I had MGB over 5 months ago. I haven't had any complications whatsoever. I was self pay and went to Tijuana, Mexico, where Dr. Illan was my surgeon. I was in the hospital for three days, and then went to the hotel for two days, where a doctor came to visit me each day. I have steadily lost weight with no stalls, and it's one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am almost 70 lbs down and I couldn't be happier!!!

Hi there, i had MGB 10 weeks ago and down 30 lbs, i would highly recommend it, i'm just sorry i didn't do it years ago! I feel great, there is a slight adjustment period to what you can and can't eat, i can pretty much eat anything now, just smaller portions and obviously limit sugar and fat to a minimum, white bread is the only thing that i absolutely avoid, it feels like it goes into a ball in my stomach, but to be honest i dont miss it. Trying to get enough fluids in for the first few weeks is the hardest but managable. i was back to work within a week of hte surgery (office work) i was tired for a couple of weeks and the discomfort/pain is minimal. IF you have any specific questions please let me know and i will answer as best i can for you :) Best of luck, its changing my life........

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
