Thank you SO much, I came back because I needed to talk to someone about this. I know you are right.

Ever since I got back on sugar it has been difficult, even with my walking and exercising I am just creeping up. I had been trying all different kinds of sugar, like coconut, date, etc. and trying to eat healthy, juicing but I am a sweet craver and I know I am just spiking my insulin and feeling terrible which is why I eat every two hours to get the sugar rush and burn again and then the crash. I know artificial sweetners are as bad or worse.

Tried the BulletProof coffee and it worked but I started adding Xylitol to it. Sugar is truly evil.

Going to get my head and mouth around this. I really believe it is a drug. I can only imagine what it is like for addicts, I am doing it with a legal substance but no matter all the benefits I have gotten from my surgery, which are countless blessings - my health, my life, etc I cannot pass up a donut.

It's sou ds so much like Presurgery issue. If I eat a banana it will give u some sugar, or an Apple it will give u the sweet without the rush into your system it's a slow release, fructose. Please change to slower release fruit. Stay away from REFINED Sugars and carbs

I came back to Bariatric Pal and was so happy to find this tread. I am 2 years out and 100 lbs lost and maintained. I always knew maintenance would be the hardest part and was happy the first year but coming into 18 months and Christmas I started eating sugar and carbs again and I am a full blown addict. Have gained 9 lbs and am terrified I am going back to the gain spiral. I am craving food 24x7. I wake up and am hungry all the time, I am eating every 2 hours. It is like I never had surgery. I know it is in my head but I am lost as to what to do. I was so close to my goal. I almost want the surgery again.

First of all congratulations on 100 lbs that is amazing! Great job... I am 10 days post op ...your comment made me think of the pre-diet we all do before surgery.. Maybe if you tried that and took it as serious as Pre-surgery maybe that might help kick the cravings .. No caffeine, no sweets., no potatoes, rice... only lean proteins.. and 45 minute walks.. hope that helps... good luck

My trigger is salt .. put a bag of Fritos on my desk and watch it disappear. Before my surgery I was a carb/sugar addict, so weird and happy that has changed.

Thank you! reading your post at this very moment has helped. I started cutting out the carbs and sugar and returning to my shakes. I wish I could say I took pre surgery seriously but honestly I didn't and the surgeon was very upset with me. I do walk up to 5 miles per day and do long walks with dogs. I also did some additional research because I knew I could not be the only one with this issue. Apparently there is a reset process which may or may not work physically but if it works mentally I am good. Because I know I have to deal with the triggers as I am not hungry at all. It is just so easy for so long because you are physically restricted from over eating. The reset is very much going back to pre-surgery or immediate post op and I am trying that now as well as meditating and being mindful when and what I eat. But not all about me, I hope you are doing well and congratulations on taking this step.

That is messed up because I have the exact same issue. Never cared about salt before, now crave it. Used to be a sugar addict, now I don't care about it at all.

Maybe the food we used to eat was loaded with salt and we didn't know it ... everyday I read about some new aspect of food and our bodies. Its all so confusing lol. I think for me sugar was a pleasure food and I was mildly depressed .. getting little or lots of pleasure was my way of coping. So maybe I am happier now and don't need the sugar.

I just remembered how much crap I used to eat.. sitting in the line at the store I would grab candy thinking to myself .. oh I bet that will taste good. And when I would eat it .. I wouldn't even taste it .. just stuffing it down. So pathetic *shrugs*. Now everything I eat, I look at and chew 20-30 times.. actually savoring and enjoying. When I look at candy now I just shake my head and say so not worth it.

Yah me .. lol

My doctor told me about a Protein called GENEPRO yoh can get at GNC. Or had 30 grams of protein, is flavorless and you can put 1 tsp(?) Into any beverage and it will not change the taste. You could try that and get your protein in.

I use genepro and I love it. I add it to my glass of milk, Water or yogurt. Not bad at all and it had 30 grams of protein per scoop with 98 calories. 33 bucks at gnc.

Thank you JessJames. I did discuss my hunger issues with my nurse practitioner and she said that it was strange, that most of her patients never felt hungry. Mine is NOT head hunger. I know the difference. I don't crave anything, don't even care much about food....my stomach feels hungry and I've switched to Zantac from Prilosec as recommended, taken several different antacids as recommended. It's so frustrating because I chose the sleeve for a specific reason. To diet sensibly and NOT feel hungry. My problem was that I always felt hungry, even after a meal. I kept it in check, did not always give in, and have been a healthy eater. My portions were what got me in trouble. I guess I should not complain. I have waltzed through the past 9 weeks without one physical or emotional problem associated with surgery.

Do you take medication other than what the dr gave you after surgery?
I noticed that with my meds I wake up with the nastiest empty stomach feeling which I confuse it as hunger. I hate the feeling so before I used to just eat something when I felt that. Now I just sip on Water to help that. Not sure if this helps but good luck.

Hi all,
It's been a while since I've posted.. I can't believe it, my hunger has come back with a vengeance all of a sudden!
I was a miracle case really, I started this journey at 260 and within 5/6 months I'd lost 100 pounds and was at goal of 160. But now.. I've started to gain (only 3 pounds) but it's gaining none the less.
People say your tastebuds change after surgery, mine have stayed exactly the same. I can tolerate bread, Pasta, rice, fizzy drinks etc. In fact.. everything that's bad for me goes down pretty easy, it's things like Protein that I struggle with.
Is there a way to reset my sleeve and start over? I miss that feeling of never thinking about food.. I'm back to waking up in the morning and instantly wondering what's for Breakfast.
Help! [emoji30][emoji30][emoji102][emoji102]

I'm having the same exact issues right now and 1 year out! Thank you for posting this. It's a relief to know this is common!

I've had all of the shakes except strawberry. My favorite at the moment is Cookies and cream.

what is a PPL? and what type of antacids should I purchase?

A PPI is a proton pump inhibitor. Stops the acid from coming up the esophagus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
