Hi all,

It's been a while since I've posted.. I can't believe it, my hunger has come back with a vengeance all of a sudden!

I was a miracle case really, I started this journey at 260 and within 5/6 months I'd lost 100 pounds and was at goal of 160. But now.. I've started to gain (only 3 pounds) but it's gaining none the less.

People say your tastebuds change after surgery, mine have stayed exactly the same. I can tolerate bread, Pasta, rice, fizzy drinks etc. In fact.. everything that's bad for me goes down pretty easy, it's things like Protein that I struggle with.

Is there a way to reset my sleeve and start over? I miss that feeling of never thinking about food.. I'm back to waking up in the morning and instantly wondering what's for Breakfast.< /p>

Help!

I am kind of where you are when it comes to feeling more hungry lately. I think that it probably has to do with my increase in carbohydrate intake (been eating bread and potatoes some here lately) and not drinking enough liquid. I am really good at getting adequate Protein. If you are struggling with protein intake, just keep switching it up until you find something that appeals to you. I am big on different kinds of Jerky and Chobani Greek yogurt and Oikos triple zero. jerky makes it really easy to hit your protein goal. After months of using the Protein Shakes and bars, I absolutely loathe all of them.

I think you're right, I was having zero carbs at the beginning like the bare minimum and now I'm going crazy on them. (Because I had to stop losing weight it was the only thing that slowed it down)..

You're right though, going to focus on drinking more liquids and my Protein, .. I've never tried Jerky before it's not like a common thing over here but I'll give it a shot! And yes!! Protein Bars and shakes are the devil now they make my stomach turn [emoji31][emoji31] ty for the advice though. When people say your appetite comes back you don't believe it.. and then it does.

How many months out from surgery are you? Good luck!

I never lost my hunger. I'm only 9 weeks out but I struggle with hunger pangs all the time.

Really? That's not good.. have you mentioned it to your surgeon? 9 weeks out you shouldn't be hungry.. it could possibly be head hunger however??

My doctor told me about a Protein called GENEPRO yoh can get at GNC. Or had 30 grams of protein, is flavorless and you can put 1 tsp(?) Into any beverage and it will not change the taste. You could try that and get your protein in.

If you are less than a year out and hungry at the time, especially immediately after surgery. You need to be on a PPI.

I'm hungry often because my metabolism is super charged. I'm an active person.

I eat every 2 hours, dense Protein.

If you eat carbs you will just want more carbs Since we can eat endless amount of carbs, starting carbs is a bad idea.

Thank you JessJames. I did discuss my hunger issues with my nurse practitioner and she said that it was strange, that most of her patients never felt hungry. Mine is NOT head hunger. I know the difference. I don't crave anything, don't even care much about food....my stomach feels hungry and I've switched to Zantac from Prilosec as recommended, taken several different antacids as recommended. It's so frustrating because I chose the sleeve for a specific reason. To diet sensibly and NOT feel hungry. My problem was that I always felt hungry, even after a meal. I kept it in check, did not always give in, and have been a healthy eater. My portions were what got me in trouble. I guess I should not complain. I have waltzed through the past 9 weeks without one physical or emotional problem associated with surgery.

OutsideMatchInside, Thank your for your response. I take Zantac every day. But, I am a very active person, always on the move. I suspect that I don't eat enough. Also, my NUT kept emphasizing, "3 meals a day, 2 Snacks, no grazing" so I rarely eat in between meals and have little snacks. I'm going to step it up. Very few carbs anyway.

@nonnilynn

It is really easy to under eat. I track specifically so I don't under eat. I eat every 2-3 hours so I don't have the chance to get hungry and make bad choices.

My "snacks" are like steak and bunless burgers. I don't really eat traditional snack foods. I'm not really snacking, I just have small Protein meals all day.

I think a lot of NUTs telling people no snacking really holds people back. There is not way you can meet protein goals in 3 meals. Snacking doesn't mean eating chips and salsa. A snack can be deli meat and cheese.

Is it your hunger that came back or your appetite?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
