Liver shrink questions

So what causes your liver to shrink during the liquid diet? Is it the weight loss it self or just the lack of solid food.??

Hello

From what I was told the liver shrinks due to the weight loss. Most people have what's called a fatty liver due to weight. When on liquid diet, the liver shrinks making it easier for the Surgury.

I only lost 6 pounds on pre-op liquid diet. The fluids only gives the liver a break from processing food and therefore shrinks....just wanted to add in case you're like me and don't lose much on optifast...don't want u to worry that u won't qualify if u don't lose a lot of weight on Optifast

I'm glad I read this... I haven't lost much on the liquid diet and have been worried my liver wouldn't shrink enough because of my lack of loss. The first week I only lost 5lbs and was extremely disappointed and stressed but reading this helps.
