I had a pretty easy time with the filet cut early on post-op, too. I usually just have steak when I eat out (mostly on work trips these days), but it is nice to have it as an option every now and then.

I found fillet on sale at my grocer. About $5.00 each! And they are big, not those tiny medallions!

We are eating well tonight!

They are delicious and tender. I was able to eat about 4 ounces

You could eat 4 oz of steak at one time. Wow. I can't even do that at 7+ months out.

My program doesn't even let us have beef at all the first six months, too rough on the stomach they claim.

I wasn't allowed steak until 6 months either. The day I hit 6 months I was in the grocery store like an addict in a drug den. Give me all the steak.

I can still have a tough time with steak.

It is not worth risking twisting your sleeve just to have steak early but to each his own.

I love steak too, in fact a bone-in ribeye at Morton's next week is going to be my final real meal before I go under the knife on the 22nd, but I have no intention of messing with my program once I have the surgery. There'll be time for steak later on.

My plan specifically permits steak at 8 weeks out. Beef is permitted earlier as long as it's crock pot tender.

cheese is proving harder on my sleeve than beef. Lol.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
