Just got my date: July 10, 2017. I have what seems like a fairly typical lead-up to WLS: losing between 20-50 pounds repeatedly since reaching adulthood and always managing to put the pounds back on plus some. I have tried many diets, including Weight Watchers, Atkins, Paleo, Nutri-System, Slim Fast, Isagenix, and various other Meal Replacement shakes. It is only recently that I have really recognized that I have a very unhealthy relationship with food. I don't know that I necessarily am an emotional eater, I just really like to eat and I really like the feeling of being full. I have started to work on the mental aspect of my food issues and I anticipate that this will be the biggest struggle for me after WLS. Basically, food is my vice.

I also have been in denial about my size for some time. I have always carried my weight in a way that kind of masks my size. I have always figured that I am doing OK as long as I can still find cute clothes that fit me. I also have a healthy sense of self-confidence and have never let my weight hold me back. However, I finally realized that it was time to take control of my obesity through weight loss surgery when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea earlier this year. I cannot allow my weight and my obsession with food compromise my health or lead me to an early death.

I am also totally nervous! I am not necessarily afraid of the surgery itself (I have had three C-sections and NOTHING can be worse than that!) but I still need to get to the place where I am as close to 100% sure as possible that I will be able to commit long term to a massive life style change. I know myself, and it will be difficult, if not impossible, for me to moderate around certain foods. Thus, surgery may mark the end of my relationship with some of my favorite things.

I have learned a great deal from lurking on this site for the better part of 2017. I am hoping to find some fellow July 2017 sleevers to commiserate with and I would love support and advice from any experienced WLS veterans, especially when it comes to post WLS surgery veterans who feel like they may have/had a dependence or addiction to food.

You got this!!! July sleevers will rock it!

I'm excited for you all...it is a true life changing event...but I do have a question....Why not tell everyone? You never know where or who will be your best support. Everyone knew when I was scheduled...come to find out my hairdresser and favorite grocery checker had bypasses and they had great advise plus when they see me they are so happy to see the results so far which feels real good. My church prayed for me and my pastor came with my hubby the day of surgery...it was nice to feel the support and love....heck... I say tell everyone!

I'm not telling anyone because I'm a revision from lapband to sleeve.. and a lot of people in my life are extremely judgemental on how I spend my money and feel like I wasted all this money on a lapband, that it would be foolish to get another surgery that is "unecessary" they just don't get it. 8 years of this is enough.. I am telling my co workers because they are extremely supportive and a few very close friends, most are also revision patients that I met when I originally got my band..

Hey y'all!

I'm July 19th here in New Orleans. It's kind of crazy because so much is happening back to back for me! I'm moving to Houston the Saturday before surgery, driving back to Baton Rouge that Sunday, and surgery is Wednesday. Then I'm flying back on July 31st. Like some of y'all, I don't have a prescribed pre-op diet, I'm just doing low carb for the next 2 weeks then it's all liquids the day before. My surgeon actually explained why she doesn't make patients do liquid diets. She said she tried it after she had a child and cracked after 3 days and doesn't feel right making her patients do something she couldn't do. As long as I'm in a losing mindset for surgery she said I'll be okay because my liver I'll shrink regardless.

I have told only my sister, husband, and one friend. People would think I'm crazy because I have such a Low BMI. I have had the lapland and am converting. I was fighting 60 lbs over and over. No one really knew I had the lapland either. I am nervous taking such a big step, but, the thought of going back to how I was so obsessed with dieting, food, etc; and getting my health problems back, pushed me forward. My surgeon also, encouraged me. Best wishes to all of you and hopefully I will be seeing some posts about how you are doing.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to follow, etc; on this board.

Twelve hours post surgery. Not going to lie, I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Sore all over. But limited belly pain. Yes, still glad Ai made this decision.

I am just over 24 hours out. I felt like I was kicked by a horse. Pain and discomfort peaked at about 12 hours out and now I'm steadily improving. I can't wait to go home. My biggest complaint is my uncomfortable hospital bed.

This time is the worst...it took me about a month before all my pain was gone and my energy started to come back. Maybe it took so long because I didn't take any pain meds home just used Tylenol and I am on the older side. :D It does get better and easier everyday

I'm getting pretty nervous wondering if surgery is the right path for me. On one side, the program has helped me loose almost 25 lbs on my own bringing me down to 227.6 and I feel like I can keep going and loose the weight. On the other side, I've done this before, lost a lot of weight and put it right back on. The sleeve will help me regulate and keep it off. I've always struggled with feeding myself and I think I'm more nervous about the after care (adjusting eating habits and such). I'm going for my final pre-op appointment before my surgery on the 17th (my date got pushed back a week bc I messed up some meds). Just throwing this out there, thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
