I learned from early on with my nut doctor that learning how to rehab my diet meant tasting food not add more sugar diet or otherwise. I don't crave very sugary drinks. I've been able to add just a half of a packet of stevia into my Protein iced tea otherwise its too sweet. If you don't like Greek yogurt try a lowfat yogurt and add a scoop of unflavored protein to it. It adds your protein and you get the yogurt you really like, I tried it and loved it. I have used stevia sparingly because if I don't get the sugary cravings under control I will never eat properly. All white stuff has to go, sugar, bread, Pasta and potatoes. If I have any pasta its only a half cup, if I want a potato I split one with my mom, I just try to eat the meat when I'm craving Italian bread with sausage and peppers sandwich I only eat the sausage and peppers and omit the bread. It doesn't make my mom very happy about any of this because she has an insane need, as an Italian mother to want her kids to eat pasta and eat it well. I believe that the hardest part of this journey for me was letting her adjust to the fact that I am not going to be able to eat the way I used to.She's getting better at it. We've never been big on too much sugar, they don't want you to eat sugar of any kind or choose low fat low sugar foods and adjust to it because its gonna help in the long run.

Being Italian I can relate not only to pasta but to the bread!!! I gave up the pasta long ago by substituting spaghetti squash or zucchini. I tearfully said goodbye to bread even though I think it is a mortal sin to have dinner without bread. When I would eat out if they burned my steak I could care less, but let them forget the bread and all hell would break loose. I still love my Italian food, I just learned to remake in a healthy way. My parents are both deceased many years but I can understand,as our Sunday dinner faithfully was spaghetti n meatballs....I look back with fond memories of those days. I still miss them very much.
Perhaps you can explain that as much as you do love pasta and the breads it is wreaking havoc on your health and you want to live a long and healthy life, so maybe they can work with you to find healthier alternatives.
Much hugs,,:)

The only way I can tolerate yogurt's taste is in savory, not sweet, preparations. I add it to Soups or add some spices and a splash of vinegar to it, and it's delicious!

Great idea! The higher Protein Greek yogurt can be blended into so many things. I'm going to try it as soon as I am off full liquids.< br>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
