Help I'm hungry all the time

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery November 2016. I did well I lost 65 of the 75 pounds the doctors recommend I lose. Although I did not get to my absolute goal weight I was very happy with my progress. I am no longer on medication for my thyroid, diabetes or cholesterol. My eating habits have not changed. I am consistent with drinking Water eating my Protein first and sticking to 6 very low-carb, low sugar meals each day. All of a sudden within a month I gained approximately 12 pounds. I don't know why this happened I don't know how it happened. Now although I am sticking to the same diet and the same exercise routine I am hungry all the time. This just started the last few days. No matter what I consume I am never satisfied. I don't know what to do to lose the extra weight I have regained. And I don't know what to do to curb my appetite because I am out of control right now. Please help I need advise ASAP!

Did anything else change in your life? Medication, job, family situation? Illness? Anything? Any chance you are pregnant? Did you introduce a new type of food, even a healthy one?

Something has to have changed. Just need to dig...

Good idea rte.. Thyroid problems... Very astute!

Go back and see your dietician again ASAP. You may need to switch up your food or exercise. Hang in there and you'll get it back off again.

Weight loss is achieved during the short weight loss phase through meal volume control. The two operative words here are short and volume. So if you want to maximize your weight loss during this phase, you need to adhere to the program guidelines. I slid into the maintenance phase at 7 months. After surgery, I was restricted to 3 meals per day. But you are consuming 6. So that might be the root cause.

As far as hungry all the time - after my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I completely lost my hunger. It was not difficult to lose weight when hunger is not constantly continually gnawing at my bones. But after about a year the hunger returned. Not like before surgery, because it was less intense. There are two different phases to weight loss surgery, these are the weight loss phase and the maintenance phase. I slid into the maintenance phase at around 7 months post op, but this can vary by individual. The approach in maintenance phase is very different than in the weight loss phase. Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
