kathytravy@gmail.com 2 Posted May 4, 2017 So I've been told that fruit and vegetables are so good for you for people who get the sleeve for all of your Vitamins, so I went and bought a ninja to make smoothies but then I wondered about all of the carbs. Is it OK if the carbs are from fruit?Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app
jacinthapittman 22 Posted May 4, 2017 They are, just remember Protein first. You may not be able to consume all of your protein AND enough fruits and vegetables to meet your nutritional needs. 1 PatientEleventyBillion reacted to this
PatientEleventyBillion 851 Posted May 4, 2017 I concur with the above post, but moreover, fruits have ridiculous carbs. I only had smoothies during my liquid phase. Now that I just started soft solids i've already eliminated them.
Navigating the Wilderness 824 Posted May 4, 2017 Fruits are definitely high carbs. Look more at the veggie-based smoothies.
kathytravy@gmail.com 2 Posted May 4, 2017 I had surgery last Wednesday and I have no problem eating anything I can get my hands on that's safe for liquids. I drink my Protein with no problem. Everyone else says how they don't even want to eat. All I think about is food ! Does this get any easier?

I have not lost the cravings and constantly thought of food. This is the worst during the liquid diet. It has gotten much easier to deal with as time has gone on. MzCoffee 23 Posted May 4, 2017 I found being on the liquids really hard and felt hungry all the time though I kept being told it was "head hunger." Taking prescribed antacids helped. I only had to do Clear Liquids for 2 days pre-op but post-op my nutritionist didn't want me adding more than 1/2 banana a day to the smoothie during the full liquid period. She said the fruits had too much fructose, i.e. sugar. Now that I'm on the pureed foods the mantra is: Protein first, fruits and vegetables second, whole grains last. I know some NUTs + MDs are very concerned about the carbs, mine are more focused on the sugars. If it's allowed you could try making a vegetable smoothie aka Soup by puree broth and veg (I used asparagus) together and then heating it. Also, Unjury has a chicken-flavored Protein Powder if you really need to get your protein up. Good luck!
jillybeanRN 76 Posted May 4, 2017 One thing that's nice about the ninja is you can sneak veggies in. So I'll do chocolate vega Protein and greens powder (20g protein), almond milk, pb fit, and some frozen chopped spinach. I don't taste the spinach and it's a great source of potassium and other nutrients. Occasionally I'll also toss a banana in there but that's the only fruit I'll have for the day. If you can focus on berries rather than other fruits, the glycemic index is a little less. 3 kathytravy@gmail.com, Bon Appetit and Kim622 reacted to this
K_aane 356 Posted May 5, 2017 A good green juice to drink is romaine lettuce, cilantro, lemon, ginger, cucumbrr, celery and green apple. You can also do that as a smoothie. I drink it as a juice. Love it! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app 1 neyney1960 reacted to this
