My Bitching and Moaning Finally Paid Off

Recommended Posts

Thank you everyone for the support on the steps! Sucked it up and pulled through it and all the hard work paid off. Yesterday I was approved for surgery and have to meet with my surgeon. They want to do surgery by the end of this month or in June. I'm excited and scared at the same time. They are talking about doing the sleeve if I don't agree it'll be RNY. I know everyone's outcome is different. I just want a procedure where I'll be successful in. I would love to lose about 90lbs, it's just will this procedure be effective for me. I know RNY is really invasive, and a lot of people is recommending it. Right now I'm 210 and I'm 4'7....so I'm still a bit indecisive lol. Anyways THANK YOU everyone for the and support I really needed it and y'all came through!!

I just got my sleeve a week ago, and since I started my diet 3 weeks ago I have been able to drop 30 pounds already! I love my sleeve. I'd recommend trying that first.

Thank you! I guess I will stick with it [emoji5] was a bit hesitant after a talk with some amazing people that had RNY. I love everything about the sleeve, it's just I over think things.

I think RNY might be a good option for you because of your size and the risk of another surgery later on if the sleeve isn't enough, maybe even the DS might be a good option for you.

That's what I've been hearing, a lovely woman I met yesterday told me that, with the sleeve it's a lot easier to gain all the weight back, and I'm not looking at this as a short term goal. I want to be realistic and I want to keep the weight off. I know I'm going to have to work, just like you said I don't want to have a revision. Is it a good idea to ask if they could remove my gallbladder? I know some people do good on the sleeve, but me I know my weakness which is sweets and fats (been cutting it out). I don't want to be an idiot and see the progress, and end up slipping.

Just be Careful about asking to remove the gall bladder if you want insurance to pay for it. The doctor will have to prove it is medically necessary (you have gallstones) in order to justify it. If you have not had an ultrasound then you might try and see if you have any and then have the surgeries jointly. Good luck

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
