How long after surgery did it take for you to feel comfortable exercising? I feel like I should be doing a little bit more the weather has been awful and not really able to walk outside due to the rain.

I was back shopping and walking around after discharge.

I mean, rain isn't really an excuse if you have rain gear. Or go to a mall, walk around there. When doing shopping, make more rounds throughout the store. It's been raining and snowing like hell here in Calgary in late April/early May and it hasn't stopped me from doing anything besides not stressing the area of my surgery by lifting/straining. I'd go with my wife to the downtown CORE mall, let my daughter play at the massive kids play area (while wife relaxes and watches her play), and I'd walk around the mall while she played, or would drive my wife nuts by pacing around her in circles (deliberately just to annoy her, because thats what husbands do B)).

I joined planet fitness on the same day as my two week follow up appointment when my doctor cleared me. I worked out for about an hour and once I was done with some heavy cardio and weight lifting, I had to grab on to my best friend because I thought I was going to fall over. Turns out, I wasn't ready for such intensity and was more eager than my body could reasonably handle while having been on a liquid diet for a month. Plus, I could barely drink Water at that point, so I wasn't getting in my fluids every day and I know I wasn't getting in my Protein. The next day, I returned and made sure I had my protein that day before working out. I did the same routine and still was feeling exhausted afterward. My friend told me I had to take it easier, so I decided it would be best to wait until I was eating actual food before I returned to Planet Fitness. I've been going this week now that I am off my short term restrictions and I've not had any issues. I feel much better now and can drink more water at once than just a sip or two, so that is huge for me. I say to trust your body and work your way up.

I'll share my surgeon's general guidance.

I was encouraged to walk week 0-3. At 3 weeks postop I was cleared to do cardio. At 6 weeks I was cleared to do everything including weight lifting, core exercises, etc.

Also you need to keep in mind your specific situation. Your overall health, BMI, age, diet stage, Water intake, if you had complications, etc.

I'm on a 20 lb weight restriction until 8 weeks. I'm 3 weeks post op today. These late couple of days I'm finally starting to feel normal and walking more. I wanted to start longer walks earlier but had a complication with a nerve ending caught in my internal stitches that caused a great deal of pain.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
