Well, my Wife and Best Half is having her Sleeve Surgery on May 11th. Any advice on how I can be supportive? She's having a tough time with the Pre Op Diet and feeling awful from low blood glucose levels as she was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Thanks

Don't eat food she can't have in her face.

Have a thick skin. Losing weight is like having PMS 24/7

I am one month post op and I can't tell you how important my other half has been... without her I probably would have gone crazy. She is on point and knew what I could and couldn't have for each stage and helped me prepare meals and now that I am on a normal diet we put our heads together and think of meals that are good for both of us. But for instance last night we got really busy with clients and I had some left over chicken and she grabbed Taco Bell and that's Ok! At this point Taco Bell sounds gross but besides that I know that the world does not stop for me just because I chose to have surgery.. that's one of the first things wls patients have to come to terms with. She was also very helpful when I got home from the hospital by doing extra cleaning since I couldn't really and just helping me when I needed. You will be fine! :)

Don't bring food into the house that she can't eat that are her trigger foods or favorites, offer to go for walks with her, or boat rides or fishing or activities she likes to do so her head isn't constantly thinking about this whole thing - any activity that doesn't revolve around food. You are a good man to want to be this supportive. And don't nag or become a 'food cop' or a jerk while she struggles with emotions as there will be hormone disruptions to her system that she has not had before and may wig her out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
