Kierajay 43 Posted May 3, 2017 DO YOU THINK BC IS NEEDED AFTER RNY... asking because my period seems to be coming on it's on but it's so painful I'm literally just trying to figure out where to go from here...my obgyn suggested Skyla however I feel like these cramps are too much as is on my body like now I'm just feeling like I have to throw up but everything is clear 1 CocoNina reacted to this
ColleenErin1974 195 Posted May 3, 2017 Most bariatric surgeons discourage getting pregnant right away. Most want you to wait 18 months. They want to get your body used to your RNY. You are going to have malabsorption issues and being pregnant requires more calories so the baby is getting proper nutrition.I'm not big on skyla because a friend of mine had nothing but trouble with hers and she had it emergently removed. The depoprovera shot is a good alternative. If you are having bad cramps and abnormal bleeding you could have endometriosis. BC helps that too. As I had it myself. I'm not a doctor by any means and you should talk to your obgyn for proper information and treatment.Good luck and take care. Keep us posted on how you're doing. hardwork&dedication 96 Posted May 3, 2017 I got the shot and bled for a year straight and the birth control they gave me to help stop thr bleeding caused blood clots and a pulmonary embolism....needless to say I wont be going on birth control.. 1 GrrlAnn reacted to this

Wow! I'm glad you are ok. I had bilateral pulmonary emboli a couple years back and it was scary. I wasn't on BC when it happened, but I see why you are deterred from using any. Take care! hardwork&dedication 96 Posted May 3, 2017 Thanks for your kind words. I mainly wanted to say though, be wary of the shot! Have you thought about Mirena?

Only because I'm not sexual active due to having an hystercopy than following my bypass I just think bc is too right now. Thank you so much for the heads up about Skyla. Kierajay 43 Posted May 3, 2017 Thanks for your kind words. I mainly wanted to say though, be wary of the shot! Have you thought about Mirena? I have tried that but I had an LEEP PROCEDURE and it scarred my cervix so the pain was CRUCIAL. So I tried the skyla iud today same thing [emoji30] and I'm afraid to take bc pills because I know some have weight gain.

Thank you so much for the heads up about Skyla. If you are not sexually active (I feel your pain!), you may want to wait on the BC pills. I was on BC for years and it can have a weight gain effect, but if you are having abnormal bleeding and pain you should ask your OB/GYN if it is worth the risk. I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago and all my endometriosis problems went away, but that is a drastic thing to have done. The last BC I was on was in a patch I had to change every week. It worked well for me and while on it I never got my period.Again, I'm not a doctor, but have some insight from personal experiences.Be sure to talk again with your doctor and maybe together you can come up with a solution. Good luck! Feel better!
GrrlAnn 177 Posted May 3, 2017 Thanks for your kind words. I mainly wanted to say though, be wary of the shot! Have you thought about Mirena? I bled for a year on the shot too and it made me CRAZY. I also have Mirena but it sounds like an IUD may not be a good option in this case. They are much easier to insert on women who have had children.Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Kierajay reacted to this
hardwork&dedication 96 Posted May 3, 2017 Made me crazy too, I was so miserable. I didn't know if the bleeding would ever stop. 2 Kierajay and GrrlAnn reacted to this
hardwork&dedication 96 Posted May 3, 2017 Really one of the reasons I gained 80 pounds...My doctor told me not to exercise because he was concerned it would dislodge the blood clots in my legs and cause a stroke, that combined with the cramping and the mood swings, it was a recipe for disaster....so I always try to keep my friends from getting the shot. 1 Kierajay reacted to this
