Surgery date of May 19th! PreOp appointment tomorrow. Really nervous and excited. I can see light at the end of the tunnel, just preying it is not the train! I have a long list for the doctor and the dietician. I am constantly questioning if I am doing the right thing or am I going to wake up in 6 months and think it was a huge mistake and should have left well enough alone!

I could use some encouragement!

Keep going! I started the process 4 years ago and got to month 4 or 5 of my 6 month pre-op visits. I then chickened out. I'm starting again-but I wish I had done it 4 years (and 50+ lbs) ago. You can do this!

Its normal to have thoughts of whether this is the right thing for you. For me how I look at it is that the bypass will be a great tool to get me healthier and to a normal weight. Having surgery is a serious decision to make. I had months to do my own research about it including getting information from others on this site. It seems like the more I got educated about gastric bypass the more I was convinced it will be the best thing for me. My surgery is on July 17. I am excited. It was a long process but to know my life will change for the better and my health will improve along with the responsibility of eating healthier will only benefit me for the better and extend my life. Stay strong Good luck to you-

Surgery is Friday. Still nervous as heck. I am starving on the pre-surgery diet (which is strange since I was on it for a year and didn't think it was a big deal). I am scared of the change, scared of the result if if doesn't work. I am educated on what is going on, I've seen the people that have been transformed, surgeon is very confident, dietician (who I've known for 3 years now) is confident, wife is confident. Everyone is positive but I am still worried. I just fear the day that I wake up and think "What the hell did I do?"

I won't back down because I know the alternative is not good. In my head I know it is the right thing. I am a confident person on the outside but am filled with self doubt. Is this a bad decision? Am I asking for to much? Should I just leave well enough alone. I am sure that this is normal but that doesn't make those feelings go away.

Rant over. Thanks all

Astro.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
