Quest Protein Bars?

Recommended Posts

So I am looking for some Snacks that I can carry with me when I am unable to have a good meal that fits my diet or when I am on the go. I had read that the Quest Protein Bars are the best tasting an aren't loaded with sugars. Are these good or is there something better out there? I am sorta picky when it comes to taste, but who isn't? I mean if it taste nasty most people won't eat it. I know these bars have around 20 grams of carbs in them but the net carbs aren't to bad do to the Fiber content. I just don't want to sabotage myself especially since I'm dealing with some stall issues already. Thanks for any insight and advice!

They are best bars on the market, even if I hate the company, lol.

Quest bars are good and have decent Protein content. I tried the new Beyond Cereal bars (part of Quest's stuff) and it was really good and decently dense and well restrictive. Certainly a good choice for grab and go over any other junk food. I just wish they weren't so expensive.

They keep changing the formula, like every 6 months.

Also a long time ago, they came on the bodybuilder forums and threatened people with legal action. ON A FORUM. Asshats.

Treated as a convenience food for grab and go, they are quite good. They have a variety of flavors to try, so something should fit your tastes somewhere. Compared to many such products, they don't have any coatings, icings or layerings that melt, so they hold up well to keeping in the car or gymbag for when needed - some people like to nuke them a few seconds to warm them up. There are some other brands that have similar numbers that one can try as well, though they often have a lot more sugar alcohols that some are sensitive to., but Quest have minimal amounts or none of them.

I liked Quest Protein bars. They come in a lot of flavors. I bought a variety and then down selected. Then I ordered them by the box on Amazon to keep the cost low. I use them when I am up and about.

I keep a few Quest bars in my desk at work for the days when I can't get out to grab lunch or forget to pack. I really like the variety of flavors they offer and use them probably once or twice a week - either as Breakfast or lunch depending on my schedule. Buy a few in various flavors and try them If you don't like them, try something else, but I've been using them since before surgery. Personally, I like the coconut cashew and keep those in my car because they don't melt when its hot. (Whereas anything with chocolate bits will get messy if left in a hot car.)

Pros - Very portable/durable, high fiber so more filling

Cons - Not a huge fan of the taste, haven't found a flavor I'm fond of yet. For taste alone I prefer Pure Protein bars which are also significantly cheaper, but they don't have the fiber and they have a melty coating.

I always get premier and pure confused

I like the bars, but don't like the fact that they change the recipe every so often. They used to be delicious, but now I only eat one or two flavors because the maker of those bars changed the recipe and texture. Atkins bars are really good. We just found a new bar, The maker of Premier Protein shakes has bars also. My husband says they taste pretty good. I can't try them for a few more weeks due to being fresh post-op. I am excited though :)

I have seen the premiere Protein bars but avoided them do to the nasty after taste in there shakes. lol I know it probably isn't the same but it's just a mental block for me. I will look into the Atkins bars also. This surgery has forced me to try new foods which is something I tried to avoid before. Now I have to in order to get my protein in. The biggest struggles for me have been on the go so I appreciate all the suggestions from everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
