I am about 3 months or so post op and I'm wondering how many calories everyone is eating at this point. I'm still losing an average of 2 pds a week which is fine with me but I'm hungrier than i was before and I want to make sure I don't go overboard.

I'm almost 8months post op and it's a rarity that I feel hungry. Are you sure it's not gas that you feel? At about 3 months I thought I was hungry as well but I ended up having reflux issues.

I was told 600-800 in the losing stage and 800-1000 once you achieve goal and want to maintain. That is in general but it also depends on you as and individual. For example it should be higher if you are very active.

Unless someone is like 4'11 eating calories that low is going to ruin their metabolism and make it easy for them to regain.

Around 3 months I was eating around 1000 calories a day.

I weigh approximately 118 pounds and maintain my weight on 1900 to 2100 calories per day. Who in their right might would want to restrict to the 800-1000 range for maintenance? As the previous poster mentioned, those who restrict for too long destroy their metabolisms. The term is called metabolic derangement.

At 3 to 4 months out I was eating about 1000 calories daily. By 6 months I had bumped it up to 1200, and by 9 months I was eating about 1400 to 1500 calories. By 12 months out I was up to 1700, and by 18 months I got up to 1800 to 2000.

I am so glad I gradually raised my caloric intake in increments because it kept my metabolic rate in high gear. I am figuratively dancing on a cloud about being able to maintain on 2000+ calories a day.

Can you share how quickly you lost your weight and how much? I'm currently 3 months and trying to figure out how much I should eat too.

I notice you have a gastric bypass while I have a sleeve. My starting weight of 218 pounds on surgery day was also considerably lower than your starting point.

It took me 18 months to lose 100 pounds. The first 80 pounds came off in 12 months whereas the final 20 pounds were gradually lost over the next six months. I lost 15 pounds the first postop month, 12 pounds the second month, and an average of 3 to 6 pounds monthly thereafter.

Yes, my weight loss was slower. I should also reveal that I am hypothyroid. However, I am thrilled with the end result of being able to maintain a fairly low body weight on about 2000 calories a day.

I'm currently in my 4th month post-op and average about 900-1100 calories per day under the guidance of my NUT, she said to shoot for the higher end of that range at this point than the lower. I've lost 51 pounds since surgery (81 since I joined my program).

@Introversion Thanks for sharing! It is really awesome you can maintain at such a normal calorie level. Hoping that I might get that lucky! :)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
