Hi Everyone. I'm on day 8 of 21 of my Optifast pre surgery diet. My surgery is May 15 at Toronto Western Hospital. I haven't cheated at all. I have 4 packages of Optifast 900 per day, lots of Water (over 2 litres), only 1 serving of fat free Jello and 1 cup of low sodium beef broth. I have NAFLD and was told by my surgeon that I really need to shrink my liver before surgery or they might not be able to RNY and will do gastric sleeve instead. I'm worried I'm not in ketosis. My breath isn't bad, I'm still very hungry and the ketostix I bought only show a trace of ketosis. I've definitely lost weight. My clothes are much looser. Not sure how much weight. I don't have a scale that measures that high. I am a male, 53, and 455 lbs. If anyone has any comments could you please let me know? Maybe my worries are unfounded.

If you stick to the diet, I'm sure you'll do fine. It sounds like you're doing everything right. I start mine May 15, my biggest fear is being hungry. It's funny really but many times at work I'd eat more during lunch worried that I might be hungry later, I guess thinking it would store in there for later lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
