My stomach is making a lot of noise!

Recommended Posts

Hi I was banded on the 3rd of October...and I am miserable. I have been walking, but I get out of breath easily. (Which is something that I am totally not used to.) I feel like there is a lump in my chest, and I have all these weird gurgling noises coming from my lower stomach.

I have been following my doctor's orders to a T. Yesterday I had only Water and ice, which is what was ordered. Then today I had some apple juice, flavored water, and 1/2 cup of Protein ISO-PRO mixed with water. I been either sleeping, sipping water, or walking. I am frustrated because when I walk (SLOWLY) I feel like I am having a heart attack, which my doctor warned me could happened and told me it wasn't serious. I also been constipated. I also do these painful little hiccups once and a while.

I am not complaining...

I need some feed back to let me know that I am not alone ...can you give me some tips and hope?

I am sure this is all par for the course, but I would feel better hearing it from someone who has been there.

Thanks a million!

Oh my goodness, the noises coming from my tummy scared my cat the week after sugery. You will hear a lot of gurgles for awhile! The painful hiccups are most likely the gas trapped in your system from the surgery. You will also feel weak from the anesthesia and just the fact you had surgery! Constipation is totally normal and to be expected as well. Just take it easy. Keep us posted on your progress and welcome to banded life!

Cookielover,

What you are feeling is normal and it will subside. With each passing day you will feel better and better. You probably have a lot of gas and you will need to walk even if you are creeping slowly. Gas will make you feel as if you are having a heart attack. Also you may want to try the Gas X strips that disolve on your tongue. I am 6 weeks post op today. There are times even now my stomach will make weird noises (like today as I ate peaches for the 1st time since being banded). Hang in there. It will get better......it may not seem that way now as you're in a bit of discomfort but it will pass.

I was banded on 9/25/07. I too went through so much pain with gas. I think it hurt worse than the incision sites (even the port site)

I have been taking Extra strength Gas X and sometimes Beano. There have been two days where I really didn't feel excruciating pain inside my tummy and today was one. Every day I have felt a little better though. Hang in there, they say the gas gets better.

I was also banded Oct 3rd, and I have had terrible wind pain as well, I thought I was having a heart attack, and they actually did an ECG on me to make sure I wasn't. I am walking heaps and that seems to helping me.

But one of the nurses in the hospital actually suggested drinking peppermint tea and to drink it as hot as I could. It seemed to get things moving.

Hi Cookie, I was banded the day before you were, and I've experienced all the same symptoms, except for stomach noises. Feels like my tummy's churning but its quiet. I've got gas pain, chest tightness, can't take a deep breath, etc. Been using gas-x strips although I'm not sure if they're really helping. Been walking around my house a lot, but haven't been outside walking yet, planning on giving that a shot tomorrow. Shoulder pain began tonight, but having had laparascopic surgery before, I was expecting that. The good news is I feel better today than I did yesterday, I'm down 6 pounds already, and I'm optimistic that in a few more days I'll be feeling pretty good. Hang in there, we're all in the same boat!

What you are experiencing is normal. Just be patient!! Your body just went through a major surgery and it is trying to heal itself.

I was expecting to be back to jogging the 2nd day. Boy, was I wrong! when I would walk just a little bit, I would get out of breath and breathe hard. It was so hard, bc I am always a fast walker, but after surgery I walked so SLOW!

I promise you that it will get better. Now I am 3 weeks po and I feel sooo good! I can work out for 60 minutes, no problem and the stomach noise are now from when I eat food...my stomach trying to digest it. (my dr's po diet is all food starting on day 15).

You will be fine! Just take it easy and relax.

Hi Suzee, Congratulations on your band!!! I am eating jelly, broth, and some yogart at this stage, although not very much. I just get full so quickly - which is a good thing - it means my band it doing it's job.

This post is very helpful. I am scheduled for surgery on October 11th. Simliar to one of the previous posts, I had the expectation that I would be up and moving regularly by the third day. Thank you for taking the time to share your experieces. I tend to be the anti-hypocondric and sometimes over-exert myself. This made things much more realistic regarding what I may be facing. I'm also having the surgery in Mexico. Will keep you posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
