How long is recovery and what was the pain like after surgery

Sent from my LG-H901 using BariatricPal mobile app

The recovery was pretty easy I thought it would be more painful, just took Percocet for a few days. The drains were annoying but other than that it wasn’t bad.

I was off work for a little under three weeks. This was all out of pocket and had to use vacation time. I was fine going back to work and I have a very physical job at times,

You were lucky then. I had mine last night and I am in terrible pain. I had really low blood pressure and heart rate afterward and fainted three times. Had to take blood thinners and inject myself when I go home soon. Had a catheter this morning, not fun. Can barely stand and can barely sit from standing.

I’m sure the results will be great but I’m not doing another one of these for my other parts. I’m going to try to be happy with all I’ve accomplished so far.

To anyone considering plastic surgery... make sure you think it through and ask a ton of questions.

Just starting the research - can anyone recommend any plastics in the Tampa area - TT/Abdomen and Butt.

Happy to report I’ve been approved by my insurance for a panniculectomy and am also doing a full body lift and thigh lift at the same time in San Francisco. My plastic surgeon is affiliated with Dr Jossart, my bariatric surgeon and will pay $14k out of pocket for the additional surgeries that are considered “cosmetic”. I’ve lost nearly 180 lbs and really excited to see the results once I’m complete. My pre-op appointment is tomorrow and my surgery is scheduled for May 20th.

On a side note I happened to meet Olivia Ward, winner of the biggest loser in 2011 at a SoulCycle class in Atlanta. She also had a panniculectomy, but wishes she’d done the full body lift. Excited to share my results.

Nice. I'm scheduled for 5/2 (next Thursday!). I also lost 180lbs (from 406 to 225) and am having a 360 lower body lift with muscle repair, male chest reduction, Lipo in three areas, and a butt lift. No insurance coverage for me, though, so all out of pocket.

But who to better invest in!

I went through with male plastics - the procedures are listed above in a previous post. The only changes are that I added a fleur de lis incision up the midsection to get rid of as much skin as possible. I also didn't need abdominal muscle repair, per the surgeon, due to building strong ab muscles with my free-weight lifting routine for the past year or so.

Posting as I know from experience that it's hard as hell to get before and afters of male post weight loss plastic surgery patients.

Congrats on your surgery. I am two weeks post-op on my plastics. No pics yet, as there is a ton of swelling still. I'm not sure what your experience with recovery has been, but it has definitely been more intense than I expected. I was in the hospital for one night before coming home. My pain and discomfort was really high the first 48 hours and has improved slightly every day, but it's still coming along after 14 days. My final drain was removed on Friday (had four total - 2 in thighs that were removed after 3 days and 2 in belly that came out 9 and 11 days after.) I'm able to walk and get around pretty well at this point, but it really wiped me. I'm so glad to have it done and know the worst is behind me, but recovery was no joke. Looking forward to seeing my results once the swelling goes down. I can tell my side flab is gone and can expect a much tighter look. Just anxious for the full results to be revealed.

Recovery was not bad for me at all. Although, I was in the hospital for two days, and then a recovery hotel with 24-hour nursing care for another 8 days after the surgery. I couldn't imagine going home after like one or two days with no support. That would have been rough. I really didn't have any pain as they had me on a pain IV for the first several days. I would say more just general discomfort and swelling, but not pain. The biggest issues I have dealt with have been fatigued for the first few weeks with getting super tired after the smallest bit of activity, and then recently I've become very itchy due to the swelling and healing process.

BlueCrush, wondering where did you have your surgery? Was the hotel with nursing care associated with the hospital?

Dr. Aex Galvez in Tijuana, Mexico. Yes the hotel stay and aftercare nursing at the hotel was included.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
