themaestroswife 62 Posted April 30, 2017 I just had my lap band removed the past Wednesday, 4/26, and found out that I had a 5cc band, rather than the 10cc band. It caused me nothing but issues from 3 months post op in 2005. When the surgeon opened my up last week, he found out that my stomach had adhered itself to my liver with scar tissue and that this was the cause of my nearly 12 years worth of discomfort. It's currently a slow-going recovery, with the gas pain and soreness being the worst of it. I plan to convert to the VSG in August, but I'm so nervous as I fully came to in the OR, after the surgery was complete. I've never experienced this and I'm terrified of it happening again. I honestly felt like I was dead and having an out of body experience seeing myself laying on the table. You can imagine my anxiety and panic when I initially came to. Once I realized it was the end of surgery I had a literal mental breakdown, causing great difficulty in getting me to relax in recovery. I'd appreciate any advice as to what kind of a diet that has worked for everyone that has a waiting period between band to sleeve conversion. My wait time is a minimum of 3 months with my surgeon due to the amount of inflammation and fusing of my organs needing time to fully recover between the procedures. I am currently on the pureed phase and have a post op appointment on Tuesday to my surgeon. I'm assuming that he's going to keep my on this pureed phase for another week to shrink my liver down even further. I thought that this 2-3 weeks would be a piece of cake, but dang, it's a mental mind game that your brain plays on you. Fortunately I never let go of the original ways of eating, nor have I gone back to the mental attachments of food. I suppose that this is good, and that this is only for a few weeks, but I'm amazed to see this happening all over again being that it's 12 years later. Have a great day! VSG Mike 3 Posted May 1, 2017 I also had a terrible experience with the band. Inserted in 13 and removed in 14. Nothing but problems. I have recently (April 13th) had the sleeve done. This thing is amazing. I couldn't have been happier. It sucks that I had to wait as long as I did to find out how nice this was. To the main task.. waking up in the OR. It really is a scary feeling. You can literally lay there and watch everything happening to you (from the reflection above). It seems like you had a bad experience with the anesthesiologist. It won't always be this way. Everyone of them are different. I've been through an interesting number of surgeries in my life. The worst was my vasectomy and that's because they basically handed me a Valium and told me to just relax. Sorry.. the boys are a bit sensitive and that's not enough. I really hope that you are able to heal up quickly and get your sleeve done ASAP. [emoji16] Youll he much happier. 1 Fluffy2healthy reacted to this
Bandy2sleeve 40 Posted May 18, 2017 Oh Amy, I feel for you. Thats tough to wake up in such pain. The three months without my band have been the toughest of my journey to date as I quickly gained a few kgs and reminded myself of why there is no.other option than surgery to help me. All I can say is to try and.maybe increase your physical activity as your little helper wont be with you for a.few mo months. Keeping busy and away from food prep is also good - but hard of you're a mum like me. I find its not what I eat, but how much of it.
