Too many carbs for me. I focus my diet on lean Protein.

Yup, and no flavor unless you add toppings (butter, seasoning, etc) which are even more carbs/sugar/sodium/crap.

Wasn't a fan of popcorn before surgery, even less so (of the idea of popcorn) after.

So killjoys it is. I have seen others say it is a trigger food, and then others saying it is fine for them. I think you will have to see for yourself.

Nutritional content 3 cups

93 cal, 15gr net carbs (18gr - 3gr fiber) and 3gr Protein

So it's not exactly a killer, and neither is the butter. I have seen most successful people on here consume fat without guilt once they get farther along in there weight loss.

Fat is a key ingredient in my low carb way of eating and to my success and has been since the very first day. But you can't couple high fat with high carbs. If you have both, it will backfire on you quickly. That's how most of us got morbidly obese (or worse) anyway...

I get that. I don't think anyone suggests a free for all on the carbs, but you certainly could plan for it, if you wanted the food item and you can tolerate it, after you get closer to goal. It's a better choice than cake or chips. Heck potato chips aren't allowed in my house now, and I am pre-op I would eat the whole bag or at least until my tongue is pickled.

I hate butter on popcorn, always had and opted for it without at movies, etc. Even movie popcorn without butter is horrible. I found a nice substitute because I do like popcorn. It'll have to be a once in a while treat when it's safe enough to eat. Skinny Pop popcorn. But I'm not all about low or no carbs either, so I don't really care too much about carbs, as long as my Protein intake is good. I'd probably eat it on my workout days.

I love popcorn I can eat it all day, me and my children love it.

I tolerate popcorn with no adverse issues, but ain't nobody got time for that. Since popcorn is carb-laden and lacking Protein, I do not eat it these days.

You love popcorn, but do you really need it? For many people in the bariatric community, a love of certain foods got them to the point of needing weight loss surgery in the first place. Popcorn is a slider food, a.k.a. slurry food. And in sleevers, slider foods are the root of most weight regain. It is a phenomenon that most surgeons do not discuss with their patients.

Sliders (e.g., chips, popcorn, crackers, bread rolls, pretzels, pastries, cookies) are low-nutritive, carb-laden 'snacky' types of foods that 'slide' through your stomach and into your small intestine without inducing fullness or satiety. You can literally graze on several pounds of popcorn without ever feeling full. The predictable result is weight gain.

Popcorn is a wondrous food for dieters with normal sized stomachs. It can, however, spell disaster for sleeved folks who need to prioritize protein and fluids over Snacks with minimal nutritive value.

I will repeat that the road to weight regain in sleevers is paved with Doritos, Lays, Ruffles, popcorn, Chips Ahoy, crackers, pretzels, and donuts. There are 475 calories in a bag of Orville Redenbacher popcorn. You can eat the whole bag and still be hungry for more due to the lack of protein, or you can get incredibly stuffed eating four chicken drumsticks for 475 calories and 45 grams of protein.

To maintain whatever weight you lose with a sleeve, the "protein first" lifestyle is imperative. Popcorn will not get you there.

Almost 2 years. Never had popcorn.

When your kids eat popcorn, eat Quest Protein chips.

You will be able to eat endless amount of popcorn once you are healed and if you do, you will never hit goal. Just being honest.

@Sosewsue61

OP said they could eat Popcorn all day. With a Sleeve you can eat pop corn all day. You could eat one of those huge Christmas bags. You could eat one of those huge tubs from Garretts (shout out to my peeps in Chicago). A sleeve won't stop you, further more, eating popcorn is going to be a lot easier than eating dense protein. The reason a lot of people eat sliders is because they are easy. Encouraging OP to eat Popcorn in moderation when OP basically admitted in the first sentence they have no moderation is reckless.

Eating something with 5 times the amount of carbs to protein is a terrible food choice for anyone, let alone a sleever.

Your brain and other body functions need fat to function. Humans have no need for carbs. Historically carbs were pushed as a cheap way to feed peasants, they are just peasant foods. Don't be a pleb, eat protein.

I tried popcorn for the first time at around 12 weeks. My NUT said it was okay to give it a try at that point. I've only had it maybe 4 times total. I pop my own on the stove or the Air Popper and just put a little sea salt on it instead of butter. That being said for me personally, popcorn is not a slider, I can't eat much at all before I get a full feeling but that's different for everyone. You know your body and what your cravings are so listen to your body. Also if you are doing super low carb (I am not per my plan) I would avoid the popcorn all together.

You are 12 weeks. Almost nothing is a slider at 12 weeks. popcorn is definitely a slider.

Introducing it when it isn't a slider is just going to make it easier to over eat when it is a slider.

Protein Bars used to have me stuff at 3 to 6 months. Now I can eat like 3 back to back if I want. They offer no restriction. Luckily I know they aren't good for you so I eat them rarely.

Huh? Carbohydrates are the body's main source of fuel. The central nervous system, brain include, require a steady supply of glucose in order to funtion properly. If we didn't need carbs, hypoglycemia wouldn't exist.

Why do you keep saying they aren't good for people? As a supplement, a quality Protein Bar or powder is an excellent choice to include in our diet. The only reason I would say they are bad for anyone would be if they used them as their only food source.

As for the OP, popcorn sounds like a food that you should assiduously avoid. I have eaten it when I needed to raise my blood sugar in short order and there was nothing else to eat around. It didn't harm me nor make me feel ill, but I hate popcorn after working in a movie theater when I was young. If you love popcorn and can eat it all day, that is going to be a slider or trigger food for you.

I keep saying Protein bars are bad because they are entirely fake and created in a factory with chemicals. They don't grow from the ground, they don't come from nature.

If you are pressed for protein in a crunch situation, fine, but they aren't a natural or healthy food. Even the guys at the supplement store I go to will caution people from eating too many.

They are not real food.

There are hardly any foods, Condiments, or beverages one can buy in a store that meet your criteria of "real food". I don't think many people would be able to afford to live with such strict guidelines as you have imposed upon yourself.

If I were made of money, perhaps I could do that. But I am not. So I will continue to supplement my diet with whey powder and Protein bars and recommend to anyone else their use. They are safe and are a good choice for lower calorie/high protein food.< br>

Wait... You recommended the OP eat Quest Protein chips.

Quote

Protein Blend (Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Corn Starch, Natural Flavors, Psyllium Husk. Contains less than 2% of the following: Sea Salt, Yeast Extract, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavors.

That's the ingredients for the sea salt flavor. I figured it would be the least ingredients. Looks a lot like my protein bars ingredient list.

Just so that any newbies don't get the wrong idea, I have nothing but respect for OutsideMatchInside. She is a tremendous resource of information and a successful vet that doesn't attack people. This is just one of the few (if not only) topic we disagree on. My words are no more valid than hers and I do not want to come across as demeaning her.

Tone cannot be heard on a forum post, so I wanted to make sure that clear!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
