Angie68 0 Posted October 5, 2007 A couple of weeks ago I posted that my Docs office manager told me that he wouldnt do Lap Band on someone with a BMI higher then 35. I went for the consultation today and she was wrong. He really doesnt like to do it on anyone with a BMI higher then 50 but has. My BMI is at 49 and he said he thought I would be fine with doing the Lap. So we have started the process and I am so happy I could cry!!!
Forestcat5 1 Posted October 5, 2007 Angie68 - how WONDERFUL!!!!! Just imagine if you had given up and not gone to the consultation! This is exactly why we have to try, try, try again - even when someone tells us NO, or says "It's not covered". Best of luck on your continued journey!!! Let us know how you're doing! musicalmomma 1 Posted October 5, 2007 :clap2::whoo: That's GREAT!!!!!! It's so wonderful to find a band friendly surgeon!!!!!! DH had a BMI of 60 and our surgeon looked at him and said, "You will definately be a challange for me, but we'll make it happen!" He warned that he may have to revert to an open procedure, but the doc was able to do it laproscopically (sp?) and DH is doing great!!! Most docs would have pushed him to do gastric bypass...heck most docs would have pushed ME to do gastric bypass too! But our surgeon LOVES the band and even has TV advertisements with one of his patients, advocating lap band. I just love him!!!
Daisalana 33 Posted October 5, 2007 Congrats!!! I thought the nurse probably was confused, it's unusual that lap-band is done if you're NOT at least 35+.
