Please help :( Not losing weight?

Recommended Posts

I am 17 days post op and haven't lost any weight. I have definitely been consuming less, drinking Water, walking. My period has been this last week, do you think that's the reason why? I've read some stuff online about your body holding onto water weight after surgery while it heals, is this true? Although I feel pretty healed; no pain, vomiting, no food or water intolerance, no trouble swallowing.

I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday but my anxiety is rendering me into a swallow of depression and I just need to know if anyone else has experienced this?

First off, you are not healed. It takes months for your stomach to completely heal, not 17 days. Healing is your body's top priority in these first few weeks. Nothing about your weight is going to be accurate for at least a month post-op.

Second, as far as your weight loss goes, you are just in the "three week stall" that almost all WLS patients go through. Google it. You'll see plenty of anecdotal information out there.

That being said, you need to make meeting your Protein and Water goals your full time job right now, and stay off of the scale. If you stick to your plan, the weight will start to come off in its own time. This journey is a marathon, not a sprint, and the weight isn't going to come off rapidly in a linear fashion.

Wishing you the best!

Thank you so much. I will definitely google that right now. You are totally right about the protein and water. Will definitely focus on that. Luckily haven't had any problems with Hair loss. If anything my hair has been healthier since I've been taking Biotin supplements.

Thank you again [emoji5]

I'm in the exact same situation as you, 18 days post op. You are not alone.

Thank you for sharing. It really sucks. I already deal with depression so I just feel extra low. Plus I'm worried if I like messed it up or did something wrong (I know this probably isn't the case). I guess my expectations were just high! I should know better by now [emoji848][emoji849][emoji4]

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
