JenSev 57 Posted April 30, 2017 How would you describe your "honeymoon phase"? Was it that you couldn't get in very many calories, so weight was dropping? Or was it that you were losing well at 800-1000 or more calories? What was your experience in the begging months/year, and why so you think the honeymoon is over? Or did it ever end for you? Did you have one?Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app
Berry78 4,261 Posted May 1, 2017 Ok, so I am only 6 weeks out, so this is just my opinion. I believe the honeymoon phase is a term to describe the period of time when the body is working towards its new set point. As long as you are working with the body, the weight will come off without a struggle. The honeymoon phase is completed when the new set point has been reached or the patient begins working against the body by eating too much or little and exercising too much or little. It would be nice to know what the body's idea of the new set point is.. but the only way to find out is to do everything right and have the scale stop moving. Once the honeymoon is over, additional losses can be achieved, but the effort is as great as preop. 2 LadySin and LeaninLanc reacted to this
Dashofpixiedust8 1,469 Posted May 1, 2017 People say there is a 6 month "Honeymoon" phase. I am 11 months out from surgery. In the 6 months after surgery I lost 108 pounds. In the next 5 months I have lost 82 pounds. So on average in the first 6 months I was losing 18 pounds a month and in the last 5 months I have been losing on average 16 pounds a month. So there hasn't been a huge difference for me. It is important to note that I was at a very high starting weight though. I started the process at 540 pounds and had surgery at 480 pounds. I am not 290 pounds 11 months out from surgery.
JKC2016 82 Posted June 6, 2017 My understanding is we only get one period, right after our surgery, when we can calorie restrict significantly, lose lots, and reset the body set point for weight. After that, while we have restricted capacity per meal, the process of weight loss is pretty much the same as for everyone. Honestly, I'm having a similar weight loss pace and process as in previous times I've lost a lot of weight. It is just easier, since I'm full on a smaller amount of food so I don't feel deprived. Key is lifelong healthy eating and exercise habits. 2 Dashofpixiedust8 and traloren reacted to this
