Revisional Surgery Advice Please :)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am having revisional surgery from gastric band to mini gastric bypass.

Do you have any tips and tricks to help the transition? Will there even be a transition as I do have some restriction with my band already.

I don't know what to expect whatsoever. I had no pain after my band surgery, is there a lot of pain after the mini bypass surgery?

Anyone that has any tips and tricks with regards to anything, I will be very grateful.

Welcome!

This surgery will be like starting all over from scratch again. Clear liquid diet after surgery, etc. I'm not that familiar with how long a band patient takes to resume a normal diet, but a mgb patient will take 8-9 weeks.

Expect the recovery to be a little worse because it is a revision, and it is a more invasive procedure. Not horribly worse, but a bit.

Did the band erode into your stomach? If so, then it's an added complication.

Once it's over and you are healed, you should find the new procedure superior to the band. No more fills, more natural eating.

The band hasn't worked out for me. I am sick constantly and the pain that I get in the port area is horrific. I can't wait to not have fills anymore!!

Have you had the procedure done? How long is the Clear Liquids phase for? With the band it was for around a week afterwards

I had MGB surgery 3 weeks ago and am doing well. I lost 30 lbs pre-surgery and 10 lbs post-surgery, and the pain was minimal after the first 1-2 days. I'm still having difficulty getting in the required Fluid and Protein but getting better day by day. I'm very happy I had this surgery and am excited for you to get your revision done. You're going to do so much better with the MGB than the lapband! Good luck!

I was on clear liquids for 1 week, full liquids for 10 days, and I'm currently on puréed food.

Thank you for the info! I'm worried that I'm going to be in major pain! :( well done for your weight loss, that's amazing. I lost 60lbs with my band but hit a plateau, then started to gain. MGB all the way now!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
