Let's talk NOT meeting protein goals

Recommended Posts

So I'm 6 weeks post op. If you've read my posts before you know I was struggling really bad with not eating things I shouldn't such as bread/carbs/sugar. Well happy to say I got past that. But now I have a new problem, I simply don't seem to eat! I try and try but everything just makes me feel blah and I end up with days like today where all I've had is one cheese stick and some gummy vitamins. Clearly I know this isn't HEALTHY but how will this affect my weight loss goals?! I want to lose as quickly as possible (who doesn't) but I just can't seem to stomach any more food right now. And before someone says Protein Shakes, I can't keep them down. Since I woke up from surgery they make me vomit instantly.

Did you doc prescribe medicine for nausea? If not call and get some. How about cream Soups? You have to eat, not only how unhealthy its gonna really affect Hair loss. Try small abouts of protien every 2 hours.

Which shakes have you tried so far?
Their are several shakes on the market especially vegan ones that do not leave an after taste. You must consume at minimum the average amount of Protein for optimal health balance and to ensure rapid weight loss.

Sleeved 9/6/16. I know you don't want to hear about shakes. I stopped drinking them after surgery. They made me nauseous. I did find a recommendation on this app about 7-8 weeks post surgery that suggested GENEPRO. I have been using it ever since. One small scoop is 30 grams of Protein. Doesn't taste like anything. Don't put your nose in it. Made me nauseous to smell it in the beginning. Now i don't notice the smell. I mixed it in yogurt, Soup, and now in my milk for my Decaf latte just to jump start my protein intake. Good luck.

If you continue to not reach your Protein goals it will affect your weight loss. The goals have been set to ensure we stay healthy but also to help promote weight loss. If that is all you were eating you also are not getting enough calories. If you not meet your calorie and protein goals your weight loss will slow or even stop.

Tessa1988, I had your problem about the carbs. Sugar not so much. My baby belly will not stomach Pasta, but I made zoodles last night tossed with tomatoes, garlic cloves, a little lemon, fresh rosemary and dill. That was yum! Also I've found no it helps me to cook. Someone else has to taste, but cooking makes me feel I'm getting to do something with food!

Hang in there. Every day is a new day and every moment is a chance to start over.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
