Does your insurance company let you kno the total cost of the procedure and your total out of pocket cost of there is one? How does the whole process work once you are approved?

Everything was submitted to Humana by my surgeons office on wed and it was received thurs so now I'm just waiting.

You can probably call your insurance company and ask them to break it down for you.

Every insurance company is different and there is no set price for the procedure so it would be in a case by case basis. Your insurance company would be the best bet to get that info. Your Dr office should be able to provide you with the total cost of the surgery but then it would be up to you too know your deductable ok Ed and find out how much you still be paying. I could be wrong about this but that is how mine worked.

Your insurance could provide you with that information. You can ask for a summary plan description that will outline what is covered. The two items you would want to make sure you know is your deductible and your out of pocket maximum.

The deductible is the amount of $ you have to pay before the insurance kicks-in. You will have to pay the full amount of the deductible.

After that, most plans have co-insurance. That is where you split the cost with the insurance companies. An 80/20 co-insurance is normal. You will have to pay your portion until you hit the out of pocket max.

Thanks.. I wasnt asking how much the procedure is though. I kno that varies. I was asking when you were given the total amount of the surgery and what your out of pocket would be. Does the insurance company give you that information or does it come from the surgeon's office? Was it as soon as you were approved in the letter? Or shortly after? I was already given my out of pocket from my surgeon before even getting approved. I guess they are basing it off of others who may have had my same insurance idk.

Im just asking so I can prepare myself and kind of give myself an idea of when I should schedule my surgery for.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
