Summer bbq and parties

Recommended Posts

OK I am 33 I just had the sleeve done on 4/18/17. This is probably really stupid but during the summer my family gets together and we do like a weekend getaway where we BBQ camp and just have a good time. It's great I look forward to it every year the kids get to play with all their cusions and everyone has a good time. This year I'm nervous.... just having the surgery knowing there is going to be all this food. Not to mention we usually have a couple drinks around the fire... I don't know how alcohol is going to affect me and if it will be to soon to even have a drink. And I know my family... they understand why I did this but they are always saying... "here try this." "You can't starve yourself". I know I'm not but man what do I do

My family has a beach family gather every summer in Clearwater FL. I've already told them, Salmon and chicken Breasts for me please, nothing else. Stick with what's right for you. I've told everyone I've given up drinking because of health reason, which in a sense is partially true.

Do what's best for you and prepare ahead. Tell them what you need for food and drinks and what you cannot. If the respect you and are supportive then they'll understand. You can say to them, " I can't do __________, but I can have _________ instead or prepare something you can have to take as a back up plan.

BBQ arent even an issue.

Grill shrimp, Salmon

You can eat burgers and hot dogs

Get a broccoli salad from the deli instead of potato salad.

Just don't drink. Drink Water

I really isn't hard you just have to take a hard line on it. If people try and push stuff on you just ask them if they love you enough to let you be great and lose the weight you want.

You'll know your limits and will need to stick with them. Plus, it's all about Portion Control. You can choose to have a hamburger, but avoid the bun and sugar heavy Condiments. If you have a child who only eats half a burger or hot dog then that means you can have the other half (or a portion of it). You don't need to explain to anyone or reason with them. You might find that you're only able to take 3 bites of a burger and be full. I'd probably avoid the drinks. I've found that a few sips and I'm already toasty. If you feel that you need one, then see about taking a sip from your partners drink just to have a taste and call it at that.

I agree with everyone else here. There are still options for you to eat especially at a BBQ when you can bring items that you're able to eat. I did this before surgery when I was on diets, I would bring chicken sausages to put on the grill or bring a salad.

Also my NUT said no alcohol for at least one year after surgery. I don't drink often so it's not a huge deal for me.

Hope you find the things that work for you and enjoy your family cookouts!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
