Most Chinese restaurants, including fast food chains such as Panda Express, will allow you to order an entree on its own rather than a combo that includes rice. This helps to drastically reduce the number of carbs you consume. We often go a neighborhood restaurant that has really steamed boneless chicken that is yummier than you'd expect, and I'll have it with some veggies.

It is pretty easy to make good choices at a Chinese restaurant. I do it all the time.

First ask them what Entrees they have with no sugar in the sauce. They will tell you right away if they have a few or none.

You can replace rice with steamed veggies.

Egg drop Soup is a good choice (I think its gross but people like it)

I get sushi and don't eat the rice.

All it takes is some out of the box thinking and a little will power.

Also even though I know my stomach is fully healed, I'm still terrified to eat rice. Luckily I don't like it anyway.

at Chinese restaurants I order something with non-fried meat and veggies and just eat about a cup of that (with no rice). I then have them box the rest up and I take it home. There should be lots of menu choices you can have if you follow those guidelines (beef & broccoli, chicken & veggies, etc)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
