Hello all. I'm very excited about this but still have some apprehension. Ok I'll say it, I'm scared. I'm going through the checklist of things to do and just a few left before I meet with surgeon and schedule a surgery date. I'm 62 and really need this for quality of life in my golden years...but still anxious. Is this normal? I'm getting a little more scared as time draws near.... thank you!

I was horribly anxious right up until the moment they knocked me out. It is completely normal. But, I'll tell you that nothing about the surgery experience itself was even remotely as bad as I had built it up in my mind to be. Yes, the first few days post-op were difficult, but all-in-all, it was not a bad experience at all.

Nothing can completely calm your nerves, but do your best to relax, prepare, and take the plunge.

Good luck!

You will be fine. I had my surgery on Tuesday. No issues, just getting enough fluids can be a challenge. There's nothing to be worried about. On my surgery date, there were 10 of us total. Yes 10. It's not a long procedure and we had 2 surgeons. One doing the sleeve and the other completed the hernia, if needed. In my group there were at least 4 people over 60 years of age, 3 females and one male. We all hung out on the hospital floor walking and talking about our experience. Hang in there, think about your new lifestyle after you successful surgery.

Vivian,

I imagine nerves are completely normal. I had surgery last week and I was incredibly nervous up until surgery day.

Don't psych yourself out. Wishing you all the best!

Totally normal. I was scared as hell. I'd be more worried if you weren't concerned at all!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
