PB question-Help!

Recommended Posts

I am hoping someone can help me with this. The last 3 times I have pbed

I can hardly get it to stop. I know why I pb. I try to be really careful and

take small bites and chew til there is nothing left to chew. Sometimes I just

plain forget and take a big bite.

Then it gets stuck and I throw it up. The problem is, for the next 2 hours

I am throwing up foam. It always seems to last 2 hours. My mouth will Water,

I spit it out, throw up some foam, over and over. Sorry this is so graphic.

I tried WasaBubble Butt's suggestion that works for her. She takes a teas. of

vinegar and oil dressing and it stops. I just threw it up.

I know I have been told it's because of an irritated stoma, but is there any

way to make these episodes not last as long? I don't dare drink anything, because I know I will just throw that up too.

I need suggestions. And believe me, I am going to be more careful when I eat. I am going to be on liquids the next two days now. :help:

None of the remedies have ever done anything for me other than make it worse.

When I PB, I just have to wait until my esophagus is clear. Normally it takes me 2 PBs, rarely 1, rarely more. But I can't say "2 hours" or "15 minutes" because it takes what it takes. Sometimes I PB once and need to again with 5 minutes, sometimes I've gone to bed feeling not quite OK after 1 PB and woken up a few hours later needing to PB. (I can usually tell if more are needed. My "sure sign" that the stoma is clear is that I can take a deep breath without pain in the band area. if I can't take a deep breath, or can't take one without pain, I'm fairly sure there's more to come).

The only things I have found to expedite the PB are:

1. Actively spit the slime out vs. just letting it drool out, or trying to spit daintily. I have a strong gag reflex, and often the spitting is enough to get me to wretch. Once I wretch, the PB usually follows soon after. Sometimes I can wretch and nothing happens, so I will spit out what little sime is left. Just the spitting action can do it for me. (Imagine the stares I would get if anyone saw me over the kitchen sink doing my little *cach pooey* *cach pooey* *cach pooey* trying to PB).

2. Take deep breaths and sort of clench my diaphragm down as I exhale. Imagine a therapeutic inhale, and a muscle clench exhale, and you've pretty much got it. I don't know why, but often after a few exhales like this I can get the PB to happen.

I don't have any trouble pbing. It's stopping that's the problem. After I pb up what is stuck, I just keep pbing nothing but foam.

foam and more foam, over and over again.

That's because your esophagus is still pumping. How tight are you? I believe foam is most commonly associated with saliva not being able to pass through the band. The esophagus keeps trying, and churns the saliva into the foam.

I was overfilled, and had something stuck, and was yakking up either foam or what looked like egg whites for about 7 hours. A slight unfill brought immediate relief.

Anything you put down your throat, when you're tight to the point of yakking up your saliva, is going to have to come up also. When you're to that point of being closed up, eat and drink nothing.

What can you do? Pursue a slight unfill would be one suggetion. Stop eating/drinking when you're stuck would be another. Aside from that, you can't do much at all - your body is going to keep at it until such a point as that you're clear (when the stoma has relaxed...ie).

I've had this happen even with no fill. It's so annoying.. and a bit frightening. Usually, there's nothing I can do. I just keep vomiting saliva and stomach snot every 10-15 minutes. After about an hour or two, a little warm pepermint tea seems to help calm things out.

The best thing to do is focus on prevention. I know for me, there are typical foods that cause this... hot dogs seem to be a big culprit. So is steak or dry chicken.

Second... try eating with chop sticks. That way, you're a bit more conscious about the size of the items you are eating. Another option is to pick up some toddler silverware/plasticware. I think chopsticks work better, though.

Three... consider acitvely counting your chews. Start with 20 per mouthful..or whatever works for you.

Four... if this continues, you could start pureeing with a hand blender the foods that are likely to cause you problems. Not something to do long-term, but it should prevent this.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
