How will I take my pills?

Recommended Posts

You may not need your metformin after surgery! I was on 1000mg per day before surgery and I didnt need it within 3 days of my surgery.

I now know that I should have been pulled from my BP meds first, because I was having very low BP before long after the surgery. I should have got a wrist BP cuff before my surgery. We had two arm ones that were left over after my dad passed, but those take two people... I asked his doctors about the wrist cuffs and they said that those were not as good, yet the next visit that's what they were using.
I was taking a lot of Rx. Cholesterol and BP were 'prophylactic' just to ward it off... They dropped the cholesterol pill first. But, I left the hospital taking all my meds.
I guess we're all different, but I should have been more proactive. I know my body better than they do. I knew I wasn't feeling good. It took 3 months before I did so. I started dropping meds as it made sense to me.
As an aside. I'd never been drunk, ever. I've got nothing against drinking, I just never felt the need. But, the few times I'd have a margarita or 4, I'd still be sober. Now two swallow of tequila or rye and I'm practically falling down drunk... I ought to keep it by my bed have two swallows and go to sleep very easily. Hah.

My Doctor told me to take my pills two at a time instead of a handful at a time like I did before surgery. It is a little annoying but, would much rather do it this way that to chance tasting those nasty things. I take 18 pills in the am, 5 in the afternoon and, 4 an hour before bed every night.

You might reconcider drinking alcohol as I've heard it causes ulcers and our stomachs are small enough to do some damage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
