How do you deal and what do you say when people doubt your ability to ensure the challenges after surgery? I had a co worker make a comment this morning.

I would say "you're entitled to your opinion," and then walk away and prove them wrong. Your long-term success will be your best response.

I'd like to say I'd do what @blizair09 said, but in reality I would probably spend some time finding their insecurities and exploiting them as much as possible with little nasty but totally ambiguous statements to them over the next few months. Realistically, only a really insecure person would say something negative about you making a positive life choice.

I love your idea!. I honestly think she was just concerned, wanting to make sure I know what I'm in for....... But it did cause me to doubt myself for a nanosecond

That's what I plan on doing...... Just watch and see me succeed

I work for a major company & that behavior wouldn't be tolerated. If someone said that to me, I'd go straight to human resources.

I think I would just thank them for their concern and that you will consider what she said but that the bariatric team has your back and you trust them.

(And don't run to HR and whine, seriously)

There's nothing you can do other than prove them wrong. I make sure to do absolutely nothing to quell their concerns, they are irrelevant. I'm doing this for myself not for anyone else, so proving to myself is the only essential part.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
