Post op weight gain?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I had my surgery on 04/18. So ten days have gone by. The first week I struggled getting 2oz of Protein Shake per day down. And would attempt to drink Water. Now, I'm on soft foods. But I'm gaining weight. Is this normal. I was down 7 lbs since surgery and now I'm back up a pound and a half. What's really going on? Has anyone had similar issues?

Yes, this weight fluctuation has happened many times for me over the past 9 months. Usually it's just Water weight fluctuations. Don't sweat it. It's normal. Just keep following your program and you'll start losing again.

I gained about that much and maintained for about 5 weeks after. I didn't really start to lose until I could eat real food again! I just stayed off the scale for a while and followed my plan.

I have a pound of gain or so whenever I stop getting in my 100oz of liquid a day. Water water water.

Drink more Water. It sounds like your body is in survival mode and trying to hold as much as it can to keep you alive. Drink drink drink and wait for the pee pee pee when it decides it's ok not to hold on to it anymore. [emoji23]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
