HeatherK_VSG 3 Posted April 28, 2017 Hello all! I was sleeved on March 15, 2017. The main reason I had surgery was to try to jump start my cycles, hopefully ovulate and possibly get pregnant. So far I've lost 27 lbs in 6 weeks, kind of a slow loss but it's okay. No one said this would be easy. I have always had non-existent periods. Sometimes even Progesterone wouldn't start my cycle. I've literally went years without a period. I started this weight loss journey at 382 lbs, day of surgery was 346.8 and my current weight is 318.2. Does anyone have an experience with their period regulating after surgery? How much weight did you lose before something happened? Almost 60 lbs down since HW and still nothing for me. I was always told by doctors that if i lost the weight, my cycle would return to normal... how long should it take? Any advice or success stories are appreciated. Thank you for your time! 1 batistaselenia reacted to this
hissunshine80 18 Posted April 28, 2017 Hi! I was sleeved on March 13th and I have also lost 27 pounds so far. I have had PCOS since my teenage years and have never had a cycle naturally. I took metformin for years and that helped regulate my cycles. It also helped me get pregnant. Although that was 14 years ago. I was taken off metformin 2 weeks before my surgery day and one month after surgery I had a cycle on my own. First time ever. And I'm 41 years old. So there is hope it will happen for you too. sammielouwho 39 Posted April 28, 2017 I've lost 140 pounds since last March. I have PCOS. Two months ago I went off birth control and had my first natural period on time. Here I am a month and a half later and my period is late and I'm not pregnant. Sooo, as much as I want to say yes it will happen it may take a while. 1 alcn1derlnd reacted to this

HeatherK_VSG 3 Posted April 28, 2017 Thank you everyone for your encouraging words! I made this post because for 12 years, my husband and I have struggled with infertility. I was always told by my doctors that our biggest obstacle was my weight. Somehow miraculously if I lost all the excess weight, my problems would resolve. So far none of that has happened. I know that this surgery is not a magic wand and I never expected it to be. I'm putting in hard work to see changes. It's just discouraging to hear my entire life to "just lose weight" and then when I do, it's still not helping. I almost feel like the doctors refused to help me due to my weight, gave me an excuse and sent me on my way without actually looking into the problem. It wasn't until I was 25 that I was diagnosed with PCOS, I'm currently 30, never had a "normal" cycle except when I took birth control pills through my teenage years. Praying that this surgery helps me and the rest of us struggling. I'm a better person now and working to be healthier than before. One day at a time.

You should check out this YouTuber, can't think of her name but basically she went through same as you & she and her husband had three kids after her vsg. I believe it will cure our fertility issues because excess weight is so hard on our bodies.

sargregea 0 Posted August 1, 2017 I have PCOS and was sleeved on July 20. I just got my first natural period in 3+ years! Prior to surgery I had to take progesterone to provoke a withdrawal bleed every few months. I'm ecstatic! Have to wait at least a year/year and a half before getting pregnant but I'm really encouraged by these results so far!HW 268SW 245CW
