Monthly weigh-ins.....

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am new to this community. I am currently working on getting the Gastric Sleeve surgery. Right now I have to gone to 3 of the 6 monthly weigh-ins that are required and I have noticed everytime they weigh me it's anywhere from 3-5 lbs more then what I weigh myself at home and at my personal trainers. Has anyone else experienced this?? It's very discouraging for me cos I'm working really hard to lose weight (eating healthy, small portions, personal trainer 3x a week)and when the scale at my home or gym says I've lost and their scale at the office says I've either gained or stayed the same. My appointments are always first thing in the morning, so I haven't even eaten anything yet. I don't know what to do about it cos I don't want the insurance company seeing those weigh-ins and decide they can't cover it.

My scale(s) at home always displayed a lower weight than the ones at my various doctors' offices. At the doctors office, I usually weighed in at 3 to 4 pounds more than my home weight that same morning.

Anyhow, insurance companies differ on how they proceed with an insured person's weight gain prior to surgery. My insurer apparently did not care because they still paid for my procedure although I had gained 25 pounds in four months while waiting to be sleeved (combination of food funerals and lack of self-control).

Always happens to me. I have just decided it is all mind over matter. I don't mind at it don't matter. To be honest I trust my scale more than I do the one at the doctors office. I take care of my scale and don't have different people on it 20 to 30 times a day.

Thank you both for replying. It's comforting knowing I'm not the only one this happens to. I even said something to them yesterday at my weigh in and their reply was "yea, they're all different." Like they didn't believe me or something. I've been really good with my diet and exercising so it just disappoints me when it doesn't show on their scales. Now next month I know not to let it get to me. Thank you!!

Yes, differing weights, always higher at the Dr.'s office, though I chalk it up to weighing myself first thing in the morning wearing boxer shorts, vs when I go to the Dr.'s office and am fully clothed, plus I have begun drinking Water for the day by time I get to the Dr.'s office as well. Hmm, wonder if next visit I should just go in boxer shorts?

I had a doctor whose scale was no fewer than 8 lbs incorrect. (Weighed light.. so a 100lb person would weigh in at 92lbs.) Completely unacceptable!

Merchants are required to have their scales checked for accuracy. Drs should too.

How many people have been declined by the insurance companies because of insufficient bmis? How many of those would have qualified if the Drs scales were correct? (Of course, the opposite is true as well..)

Sigh.

I agree Berry78 they should have to calibrate them at the end of every day or week. I already know they got my BMI wrong. When they measured my height they said I was 5'6" and I know I'm 5'7 3/4" cos I just got all that checked the week before at my PCP. It is what it is, I guess.

Just rest assured in the fact that even if it is 5lbs off, it will still show your declining weight if you are losing! They weighed you with the same scale at 1st appointment so it's still setting the bar. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
