Banded And Fustrated!!

Recommended Posts

I WAS BANDED 9/5 AND HAS GAIN MOST OF MY WEIGHT BACK BEFORE SURGERY. I'M AWAITING TO GET MY FIRST FILL 10/15. THE DR. TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY IF I GAIN THE WEIGHT BACK THAT I'M STILL HEALING. BUT I THINK WHILE YOU WAIT FOR YOUR FIRST FILL THE DOCTORS SHOULD TELL YOU HOW MUCH TO EAT. MY DR. TOLD ME TO EAT UNTIL I'M FULL. SO THAT IS WHAT I'M DOING AND EVERYDAY I GAIN MORE WEIGHT. I STARTED CUTTING BACK BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO GAIN ANOTHER POUND AND I WALK 2 MILES EVERY DAY BUT IT IS SO SOOOO FUSTRATING!!!!!!:help::help::help::help::whoo::whoo::whoo:

hang in there. I am 5 months out and I have lost 80 lbs. Never gained any weight. Once you get filled the weight will come off. Just watch what you eat. I know it can be hard, but think of the effort and all you went through to get this band. You don't want to mess things up!

I agree that your doc should have given you an idea of what to eat. I had to see a nutritionist and I have a four week diet plan. I'm sure it is very frustrating but soon you will be filled and losing. Beth

My doctor also gave me a 4 week diet plan......2 weeks full liquids, then 2 weeks of mushies. On the mushies, I get 3 meals of 6 oz each.....plus 2 Protein Shakes. I hope things get better for you, believe me I understand....I'm still in the liquid phase and STARVING to death....but as of yet holding on, but barely. Good luck!!

Sorry to hear about your frustration. Be patient it will come off. I am wondering what your doctor meant by until you felt full. You are only 4 weeks out of surgery and should still be on pureed or moving up to the next stage. My nutritionist said you want to until you feel satisfied but don't get to the full stage because you can overdue especially without restriction. My diet rules are 3 meals a day, 2-4 oz, lasting up to 45 minutes - eat slow it helps you feel fuller, and do not drink with each meal until at least an hour after or before you. These were my guidelines but all are different. Hopefully it could help. I wish you a lot of luck and i know you will do well.

Redgirl- I was banded on 9/5 also- I have been eating anywhere from 1/4 c to 1 cup- even though the instructions are really 2 oz at a time- This is the time where we have to train our minds that we can only eat so much-my calorie content has been as low as 700 cal-1100 cal. I was up 4 lbs last week but then dropped it again- it also has to do with the Water consumption-if we aren't drinking enough-I know I am not- then the weight loss will stall- you will be fine-just eat a little at a time- then wait-if you really are still hungry then have something once you are sure you are hungry.

I hear you. I gained 3lbs when I started back on mushies. I worked so hard to lose those 3 lbs again and then I hit plateau for about a week. I am so careful about what I eat (My dr's po starts on all food day 15), count all my calories, but my body doesn't want to lose weight.

Eating 1000 calories a day or less is what has done it for me to help me continue to lose. Also, I walk 2 miles every day or do 45 min on the elliptical.

My Dr. told me that I would gain weight until my first fill. Can you believe that?! He told me not to worry about it bc after my fill, the weight would fall off. I informed him that I had already gained 3 lbs since I started mushies (started mushy on day 7). He said it was just my metabolism.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
