I just moved to ATL a year ago and I really only know my cousin down here and my co workers of course. My mother may not be able to fly down to help me after surgery during my recovery phase, and I mean my cousin can come over to help a little I guess. But will I need much help? I dont have anything heavy to lift at home.

My sister had this done years back. She recommended at least having someone with me at the hospital to help walk around and the first couple of days...mainly because I have an 8 yr old son and will be much easier to take care of him. You will be very weak and exhausted...especially the first week. I've heard of people over doing it and passing out. Can't take that chance around my son so thankfully one of my sister's is flying in tomorrow for surgery on Tuesday! Good luck!

I think you'll be okay without much help. You will likely be exhausted and not feel like doing a whole lot. 2 weeks post op and I'm still exhausted, but the only thing I really needed help with was grocery bags (but I could have done it making several trips if my husband hadn't grabbed them).

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll wait and see when I have my surgery scheduled for and go from there. My cousin just had a baby too lol but she only lives 5mins away so maybe she can atleast come to the hospital and of course drive me home but we'll see.

Thanks for the responses!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
